Greetings all! My name is Vince. I'm new to the community. I was referred here by the current owner of the plane I am in the process of buying.
A little about myself. I was born and raised in St.Pete, FL. I took my first ride at the age of 9 and never looked back or seriously considered any other way of life. In 2014, after 30 years of patiently waiting for "my turn", I finally took my check ride and received my pilots license. Since then I have dealt with a series of set backs all the while never giving up on the dream. Four weeks ago I got back in the saddle and have been flying fairly consistently.
I have been an A&P mechanic for nearly 20 years and I currently work as an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor for one of the major Airlines. Until recently I have been a resident of Chicago, but am in the process of transitioning to Hudson, NH where my wife and I have a house. With my oldest on his way to college this fall, there is nothing tying me to IL any longer and I am looking forward to a much needed mental break from the stress of Chicago.
A little about the plane. While the deal is still in progress, I am in the process of obtaining my first airplane. A Commander 112TC. I have wanted to buy an airplane since the day I got my license, but I always assumed it would be better to wait and finish my ratings first; not to mention that really didn't have the serious money to give serious consideration to it. Three weeks ago I was trolling around Facebook and came across a group for airplane sales. I couldn't resist looking. I was surprised by the reasonable prices on the planes I was seeing and I couldn't help but fantasize again about actually owning a plane. As I continued to scroll through the various posts I saw a few Cessna's that caught my eye as I have always favored them. Could have something to do with the fact my first flight was in a 172. I wasn't until I was getting ready to head back to work when the very last plane that I saw was the 112TC I'm working on. The image burned into my brain for hours there was little else I could think about. After a day I chimed into the group. By the end of the second day I was absolutely this was my plane. Not a doubt in my mind about it. We still have a few last details to work out in the Agreement, but I have already submitted the down payment. The pre-buy is scheduled for the 16th.
Like all older airplanes, to me its not so much what she is, but what she can be that excites me. She has a lot of charm and potential and I honestly can't wait to take her home. As a 20 year veteran A&P, there is very little that I won't be able to do for her.
I'm not alone. Backing me up on this deal are the two people in the world that I am closest to. My loving Wife Gini, and the best friend that a guy could ask for Dan. Dan is my flight partner. We have been friends for more than a decade and are basically cut from the same cloth. Dan and I plan to share the cost of upgrading, maintaining and operating this beautiful machine. It is the plane that will carry us through the rest of our ratings and will most likely be the starting point of our business......eventually. Dan and I will share this log in, so from time to time you may find this account sounds like two different people....because we are. At some point in the coming days, I'm sure Dan will take a moment to introduce himself. I'm not sure that I will be able to get my wife to post here, but anything at this point is possible.
I look forward to lending my experience and "there I was" stories with the community. I am also looking forward to establishing business relationships that will help us upgrade our latest addition.
