We would like to introduce ourselves to the group, Scott and Lendon Schellhase of Shallowater, Texas (near Lubbock), the proud new owners of N527GT! My background is flying the 112 (N1040J) for about 12 years, so my friends at church have told me I was returning home. We flew the plane from Mesa, AZ back to Lubbock and it was pure joy! Glad to be a member!

One thing we need, the plane didn't come with the gus lock, wondered where we can buy one? Thanks.

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Sorry, meant a GUST lock! Thanks

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Scott,
Welcome!!

Not to hijack your thread, but with the recent install of an ASPEN the traditional gust lock will not insert from above. Inserting from the bottom is an art I haven’t quite perfected.

So, ASPEN users; what are you using to secure the controls? Anyone want to offer your original lock to Scott?

Possibility, James Cole is parting out 3x 112’s – he “may” have one. 941 724-1041

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Please hijack away, I would love to purchase any one's original gust lock if they are out there?

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Congrats Scott. I was in PHX the night you were working on your test flight. Glad you got it done and made it home before PHX got hammered the next couple days.

No leads on a gust lock, but welcome to the group. Fantastic bunch of people on here.

Hope you can make it to Dayton.

Tim

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

I have the Aspen 2000 Pro, drilled a hole in the copilots yoke and use the gust lock on the copilots side. No comments on this I really don't care to hear them, this is what I did and it works for me, keeps the controls locked. PS there is a hole (for the gust lock) in the yoke bushing housing that mounts on the panel for both pilot and copilot sides.

Thanks for visiting with me the other night on the phone Pete! The 114 we bought in Mesa didn't have a gust lock so I am just trying to find where I can buy one! Thanks Again!

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

www.krn.com

They are showing three gust locks available, new surplus, part number 47312-1 and 47312-01.

www.preferredairparts.com

They are showing two gust locks available, "serviceable" (meaning they are likely off of salvaged airframes). They show the part number as 47312-001.

John Wright already mentioned David Cole, down in Florida, who is parting out three 112s.

Then there's a 114 being parted out by Arizona Air Salvage.

There's another two gust locks listed in the U.K., but that's probably not important to you.

So, you've got lots of choices.

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Does anyone have leads on the door inserts, co-pilot side, the recessed door pull insert, ours is broken, would love to replace it....thanks.

You might try looking at Plane Plastics. They have an online catalog. Welcome home by the way!

Pete, if you think you might be interested in a different solution, remind me to show you what they did with mine to accomodate the Aspens when we get to Dayton.

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

I will be in Daytona at the GOG fly in.

Sven designed and built the one that I have in N1182J and you are all welcome to copy it.

Life is a barrel of fun.

If you are coming to the fly-in, I'll be happy to give you a demo. Works fine from below. Slight adjustment to the bends in the standard lock.

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Bill,

I have the standard control lock and stopped using it with the Aspen install. Isn't there a post that shows the modification?

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Our Aspen 1000 is flush mounted so no interference with the gust lock.

See you all in Dayton ! My first flight into the US with FFOM..... excited !

Possibly, but I don't believe I posted one. Instead of the flag on the lock covering the key slot as it does with the standard top-down installation, it stands in front of the Aspen display. Can't miss/forget it.

There is a picture of my Aspen gust lock in the gallery.

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

I used the seat belt option once but prefer to lock in a neutral control position.

Re: Excited New Owners of N527GT

Borrowed Neal's photo but although my bend adjustments are slightly different than his, the end effect is exactly the same.

Bill

That has to be the best looking controls lock Red Flag in Aviation, but needs to be lettered
"Remove before Flight" as any attorney will sue you if someone else flew the plane and claim they didn't know it needed to be removed before flying and get mooch dollars for there stupidity, OH YA put it in Spanish too seems the trend in the USA for all companies.
