Despite the weather, 4 crews made it to Shoreham for our first meet and greet of the year. The discussion over lunch turned to organising a longer distance fly-out during the summer. The following suggestions were tabled:

Balkans
Madrid
Palma Mallorca
Greece

The fly-out format would be 2 legs per day, aiming for around 2.5 hours absolute max per leg. Route planning is up to the pilot but there will be a suggested lunch stop and a daily destination for hotel and dinner together. The route should be able to be flown VFR and in daylight. I would suggest we do this between July and September.

Please post your suggestions for location and preferred month on this thread. Those above are just suggestions, feel free to add to the list. We'll have a vote at the end of March for the most popular places and times.

When making suggestions, please have a thought for those who have 112's with 120-130KIAS and 11,000' ceiling.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Lets try that again.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Hi Lawerece,
Sorry we couldn't make it to Shoreham, we had to turn back.

How about North Africa i.e Morroco

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Hi Govind,

We were looking out for you on the arrivals board, we guessed that you may have had problems coming from the East. BTW saw your plane parked at Southend a couple of weeks ago, looks good.

I'll add Morocco to the list however 11 Commanders went there last year on a fly-out so perhaps they may not want to do it again. Thanks for the reply, once we have a shortlist, I'll put up a voting form. Any preference on dates?

Thanks

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

How about Montpellier on the Mediterranean coast. Also a good position to venture further if we wanted to.

Small snippet.
About Montpellier, France:

Montpellier, France is a bustling and vibrant city in the South of France often overshadowed by neighboring cities in Provence, but it is well worthy of a visit. The city is beautiful, filled with architecture and rich in history. It's lined with boutiques and sidewalk cafes, and dotted with magnificent squares.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Not abad Idea and may be venture upto Barcelona

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

I joined the trip to Morocco last year it was a fabulous experience, we had a local guide helping with the organisation. I suspect that its a bit late in the year already to put together a trip like that.

I'd go along with Montpelier as a stop plus what about carrying on along the Med coast to say Cannes/Nice and then Corsica (Bastia) and Elba, Gerona for Portofino, Venice then home make a good weeks tour?

I got to Barcelona twice last year, Sabadel is quite welcoming but a way out of town.

My best time to join a trip would be July/August.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

David,

what are you doing up at 4 am.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Good suggestons, keep them coming!

David, I'm going to Sabadel next month on the way to Palma, looks like a complicated approach/departure, any advice?

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Somthing with a bit of beach in it would be good.

Biarritz is always a favourite or maybe Potimao in Portugal if we fancy going further. However Croatia could be intresting.

Mark.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Hi Lawrence

Yes looks scary but it aint.

Refer to the area chart in Jeppersen. From the north you will probably be working Gerona, they will route you to Mataro on the coast not above 3500' change frequency to Sabadell tower (Barcelona approach arent interested in you, first time I called them told them routing Sabadel vfr and they switched me straight away so next time I cut out the middleman). From Mataro its to Sabadel "E" and then they'll tell you how they want you to join. Its a doddle just follow the motorways from E to the field if its a bit murky.

On departure you will be routed to Martorell & Vilafranca and then Reus "E", again just keep the motorway on your left.

Weather office, Flight planning office and fuel (BP Card) all on site at Sabadell, if your going to town by far the easiest is by train 5 mins taxi from the field to Sabadel Sud, 20 mins to the centre and someting silly like 3euro for the trip.

Have fun

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Thanks David

Fuel - BP card only? No cash?

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Guys

I have been on the BP site and have looked at their private BP fuel card. Just a few questions.

1. Is it just BP fuel we can purchase with it?

2. Is it direct billing (via direct debt or monthly)?

3. Is it credit based or striaght invoice?

4. How many sites around europe is it valid?

Grateful for comments as the bp site doesnt really explain just says apply here, always a worry.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Lawrence

Sabadell will take credit cards, dunno about cash as its pay the driver so maybe not.

Matt

BP card is a charge card, repayable by direct debit widely accepted accross Europe at BP concessions, I find it very useful plus some places like Antwerp have a self serve system which prefers their own card. I also have a Shell card which is largely a waste of time. For France the best thing is a Total card but you need a French bank account to qualify.

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Montpellier sounds interesting, what about Deauville

Re: European Fly-out Summer 2009

Guys,

Anybody know anything about colton aviation, been trying to get in touch with them for the last few weeks for some paintwork but line just ringing out and no response to emails.

Regards
