This is a question for one of our European Colleagues:

I heard on the news today (here in Canada) that the European Union has selected to tax any aircraft that overflies the EU countries (apparently a carbon tax). Out of curiosity, my question is does this tax apply to the general aviation aircraft in Europe?

Best regards,

Pete

For a Commander, in a word...no.

For Private Jets it is a per passenger tax on commercial ops.

However, you don't want to visit Italy any time soon, they are bringing in a luxury tax on all private aircraft, boats and high end cars. It looks like the tax for the year will be due if you spend more than 48 hours in the country. For aircraft over 1000kg this would cost around 3,500 Euros.
