Keep up the great work. I (and I am sure all owners) very much appreciate all the upgrade options you have made available to the fleet. I hope to take advantage of one in the future.

Jim,

You should offer your IO-390 to the 112TC/112TCA crowd ... much better engine combo.

Congratulations Jim.

Why would we want less power? a 210hp non-turbo wouldn't be an upgrade, it would never get to 20000ft

I would love 300hp it seems to me there was a guy years ago in Washington or Oregon that had gotten approval for 300hp in a 112TC.
I wonder what ever happened to him.

Re: Engine STC's

Wasn't that a Machen Conversion? There was one for sale 4 or 5 years ago, don't know much about it. I'd be interested in the IO-580 or a Turbo normalized IO-390 as a replacement for the TO-360. I like the option of flying in the low to mid teens in the Summer where the Air is Cold. The only wild card is the usefull load with the 580. Am I going to add, subtract, stay the same with the UL?

Re: Engine STC's

Jim,

How does this figure for the 112B drivers in EASA land?

There is one 300hp 112 at Hooks Airport in Houston. The owner says its for sale. Its in the adjacent hangar next to mine.

Re: Engine STC's

Hi Paul,

Actually, I had also requested eligibility for the 112TC/TCA aircraft but needed to iron out a few more details so I am handing those types as a follow-up request with the FAA.

I don't expect many of those owners would be interested, but I am always open to inquiries to help me keep my priorities straight.

Hi Floyd,

Correct, we have demonstrated the 390 Super 112's will do better than 16,000 but they won't get to 20K. We do guess that most 112TC/TCA owners will eventually need new engines and some might be happy with normally-aspirated to keep their airframes flying.

Also, note that while the altitude capabilities are quite diefferent, the comparative performance/economy factors in the typical flying regimes are a closer call. Given the efficiencies of our RAM induction system and dual exhaust, we under roll and out climb 112, 112B, 112TC (MP 36"), 112TCA and Hot Shots (MP 28") for takeoff operations, and only fall about 5 knots short of Hot Shot and 10 knots short of TC/TCA in true cruise at 7500 MSL, while cutting fuel consumption somewhat and operating temperatures radically.

Hi Lawrence,

We continue to have major headaches with EASA on noise approvals since the Part 36 is not harmonized yet and the Kohn team that handles noise approvals is not willing to honor FAA approvals. Despite much effort on our part, we still do not have 580 approval for non-N airplanes and don't expect we would fare any better right now re the 390. Mike Perry reports that a Channels Islands registry is in the works and that they would approve all of our STC's straight-away for anyone who felt inclined to register there.

Thanks everyone,
Jim

If its anything like the new Isle of Man register you would have to live in the Channel Islands. There is a minimum wealth requirement for that and moving offshore is a bit of a push just to get an engine approved. I have a feeling at the next engine change it will be another 360, then sell and upgrade or sell now and upgrade while there is still half life in the current one. Anyone want to buy a 112B with 1100 hours on the engine, recent respray, make me an offer.:)

Re: Engine STC's

Jim,

Am I reading that correctly?

SA00302BO
210HP RAM Package for 112/B:
1200 FPM, 140 KTAS... GAIN 50 lbs Useful Load.

The 390 Conversion is for B models only? Or is that reading 112 thru 112B?

Dave
