Most of you are already aware that Decatur, Illinois sits at the center of the known universe. To widen the awareness of this fact, the airport director and the FBO (Gaitros Aviation) are hosting a fly-in, free lunch (burgers and brats) on Saturday, 25 June at KDEC. Food is available from 10:30 to 2:30.

If you are out flying that day come and join us. Two Commanders have already committed.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Morning Dennis,
You caught my attention, what local attractions are in the immediate area of Decatur?
"IF" I could talk the wife unit (SFO) into going we'd probably want to get a room for the night. 7- 8 hours in one day is a bit to ask of her . . .
Good luck with the fly-in.
John

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Weather (and wife) allowing I'll be there. Great airport but are they going to waive the $5 landing fee that day?

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Mark and John - Happy to hear you both are planning to come. No landing fees or facility fees will apply. There is a Wyndham hotels close to the airport with shuttle service (6AM to 10PM). I will be happy to make reservations when you reach your decision point. The FBO discount for the hotel puts the price at $81.00 plus tax.

Everyone staying the night are invited to dinner on the lake as our guests.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

May try and make it too. Like to here some good tips.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

You are more than welcome Michael. We can open up all of the Commanders (if the owners agree) and talk shop with my A.I.

If John and his SFO go then me and my SFO will also commit to coming:):), and John we will also get a room and have a great evening and breakfast etc the next morning and then perhaps fly back together as well as up there together.....as time gets closer we can coordinate.

The longer / further away the flight destination is the better I love it:D I'm all in for this fly-in especially if John and His wife commit to coming and we can wingman it all the way up together.

This can be my Birthday present to myself ( June 20th )

Todd - we will bake you a cake!

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Hi Dennis, we'd like to come visit also. Do you have a code for the hotel rate or do we need to go through you to get it?

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Craig - I spoke with the hotel manager this morning and no code is needed; just tell them you are with the Commander Fly-In group and that the sponsor is Gaitros Aviation. The hotel gets 4 out of 5 on the reviews. The rate they gave me this morning is $83/night.

The number for Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Decatur is 217-864-9311.

We will expect you for dinner and the birthday celebration for Todd.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Reservation made. See you there!

* Dinner on the lake the night before for early arriving Commander crews (Pilot + SFO +?) as our guests.
* Birthday celebration (and cake) for James
* We have crew cars, rental cars, my cars for transportation

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Dennis, I am only a fuel stop away and I am going to try to make it. Not sure but will try to.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Hi Dennis, I guess I misunderstood your invite. I thought you were talking the night of the flyin. I can't make it Friday as Tracie has to work. Was planning to arrive around 10am and spending Saturday night. Also was it Todds birthday or do we have two birthdays?

Everyone staying the night are invited to dinner on the lake as our guests.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

The dinner invitation applies to the whole weekend so you are covered. I believe it it is Todd's birthday. Sorry for the confusion.
BTW we have two Wings credit seminars that day a well. Looking forward to seeing you here.

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

Guys I am sincerely sorry but I forgot until my wife just reminded me a few minutes ago that we have a Family reunion on that Saturday the 25th up in North Carolina so I guess I am going to have to go to the family reunion if I want to keep my SFO happy. I greatly appreciate the invite and as all you guys know I was very excited and of course I am now bummed out. I hope to see a lot of you at Oshkosh and the ones I don't see there I look forward to seeing you at the annual Fly-in at Pine Mountain.

Blue Skies and Brisk Tailwinds,

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

We need more central US support for this fine free lunch and Dennis is throwing in free supper on the lake even (or is it dinner?) :) Great chance to get out and meet some Commander drivers. Hope to see you there!

Re: Early Summer Fly-In Lunch

I was hoping to venture out of the state of KS for the first time, but the wife informed me we have wedding on the 25th. I'm hoping the weather's good so I can make it to PIM. I'm dying to go on a long X-country one of these days. The $100 burger is the only flying I've been doing seen I purchased 114WE.

Keith,

If you get a free weekend coming up - maybe we can meet up in NE or somewhere else in KS - it'd be a $100 hamburger with an extra Commander around LOL
