I sent this to Glenn, (President COG), and he recommended I post this request - I am a Commercial/Instrument pilot who lives in the Atlanta, GA area, and have been considering purchasing a Commander 114. I have read a lot about these great airplanes, and very much like the fact that it is one of the few airplanes that has a pilot side door. I have been flying a Cirrus SR22, but acquisition cost is steep even for an early G1 model.

Being Commanders are not as prevalent as Pipers and Cessnas, I have never had the chance to fly in one. Do you know of an owner in the Atlanta area that would be willing to take me up for a flight? I am thinking before getting serious, that would be logical next step. Happy to pay for some 100LL as well.

I live on northeast side of metro Atlanta and am close to PDK, LZU, WDR, and GVL airports. Any takers?

Thanks!

Brian Burton

Hi Brian,

If you could get to 16J Dawson (Near Albany) tomorrow morning there should be at least a couple AC11's to checkout. (mine and Ken Andrews) Dawson has a very relaxed EAA breakfast on the 3rd Sat's.

If my latest Avionic's works checks out (Mode C) then I may make a Spruce trip to Falcon Fld later around lunch time.

Our Grandkids are near KVPC (Cartersville) we're 'overdue' a run up that way as well.

Think there are a few in your immediate area though.

Good luck and ask away any questions about our great airplanes . .

John,

Thanks for the offer. That's a little far on short notice but hopefully an owner in metro ATL area will respond.

Thanks!

Any takers in the Atlanta GA area for a ride in a Commander? Reposting -

I go to KVPC several times. My mother lives there. I have a 112A that we can fly in at least give you an Idea of what its like. I can come over anytime the weather is good.

Michael - Let me know the next time you are planning on being there and I can try to meet you. Weekends are usually easier but could do on a weekday if far enough in advance.

I am at 404-308-2424 and you can text to that number as well.

Thanks!

""May"" have a run into Cartersville Sunday afternoon. Juggling wx and family's schedule at the moment.

I think there is a AC11 based at Cartersville/ heard rumor he owns a paint shop on the field.

I have a 112A but and am based somewhat close at KCVC. Email me Brian if this will work.

Jay, I have been texting him about giving him a ride, but you are way closer. Brian is up near KGVL. I'll text him and let him know your offer if he doesn't get online here.

Just out of curiosity, where does a 114 io540 airspeed yellow line? 112 io360 is 140 knots.

I descend in airspeed rough air range pretty much all the time unless I have to reduce throttle cause I'm getting beat to death in rough air. I run WOT everywhere except for landing and I would do that too if I could. .

Not too much difference between 114 and 112 in regard to airspeed, maybe a little granted. I like 8-10 GPH fuel burn one gets with 112. The reason you would want a 114 foremost is useful load I would think.

We don't know Mr Burton's convictions towards a "114" so maybe a 112 might also be suitable. .

Mines a little better, but I have gap seal kit, extra landing gear door cover, cover over the landing light and some light weight stuff. The other day at 7500ft, 0 degC, at 22.5/24.
About 142-145 true (off a little on my true air speed adj at top by 500 ft).

On the way back I powered up a little and dropped to 4500ft to get out of the head wind.
