Ah the flying weather is returning. Sorry you folks in the NE quad man thats nuts with all the snow I feel for you. This is a short 6 minute video of last weekends outing to the historic Geiser Grand Hotel circa 1889 in eastern Oregon. We have not got to do a lot of flying the past year I think 30 hrs or something pathetic.
This year will be better and last weekends trip reminded us of just how lucky we are to own such a beautiful airship.

Re: Commander flight video

Nice to see someone flying. Even if I could get 26J out of the hangar the snowbanks are too high and close to taxi to the main taxiway.

Re: Commander flight video

Nice flight Brian...what traffic awareness system are you using?

Nice, did not realize you were from Wanachee. Had an uncle that owned a cherry orchard there. Went up the to see him a couple years ago before he passed. I go out to Oregon (Salem) very year on business. 2 years ago I flew my Cherrokee 180 out. Lots of fun. Sold it just before my last trip. Now I have the 112A and plan to fly it out this year in July. Maybe we can meet.

My traffic is called traffic watch system I'm not home so can't tell you who makes it Monroe maybe rings a bell. It picks up everything within a 5 mile radius on long range. It tells you how many feet above or below and distance in miles from you but not direction. Its a heads up to start looking. The same 5 miles also is straight up so it picks up airliners but you can tell by the altitude reading. Its when you see one is 1000 or less of your altitude start looking hard. You can tell if its in the 180 forward quad by distance closing fast to really start looking and through on the head lights. A distance getting larger your past it no factor. I can also see them with my IPAD Stratus receiver but not all yet that's more money.

mcgrathm Yes if your in my State I would love to meet another Commander driver. I would fly across the State to meet you. In fact there are like six or so here we could start a mid summer Commander meet. Some are in this group like Tim K.

This particular flight we were out of O2 and my wife doesn't do well above 8,000 without it. That's why I am pretty low for a hotshot turboilzer. We had a nice tail wind anyway but I talked to a Cessna P210N Pressurized Centurion at the pump in Oregon. He said he came from the Seattle area at 23,000 was reading 240 knots ground. I have seen 190s but never broke 200 yet!

Re: Commander flight video

Wow Brian..that's great thanks...I'll look up the details online for your watch system...sounds pretty good. I will have to install ADS-B soon but my wife, anxious as she is, would really like something immediate ha ha. Don't want to dump a bunch of money for traffic right now...if I will be installing ADS-B, along with a GTN750 (hopefully) soon.
I'm not in WA. We're in Arizona...we would love to fly up that way sometime soon. We will look you up if we do, for sure.
I love the turbo too....flying high, no clouds, need more of it!! Summer is coming....

Re: Commander flight video

Brian, My wife and I spend a lot of the summer up in Central Oregon (Sisters area). Would love to get together with you guys.

Glenn, your post reminds me of my very first ever flight. 10 years before my 1st flying lessons, 2 years before my SEASIA C 130 experiences.

I was 20, January 1966, and the flight was from Oneida County Airport, Mohawk Air Lines. A Convair 880 to JFK. A very Frigid & very windy 7 AM departure. The runway was black ice and the snow banks 6-7ft, just like along the roads in Upstate New York as Jim (CAVUTO) knows well.

Takeoff was aborted 3 times, with wing gips hittng tge snow babks and going back to the gate? For inspections??? (as the plane could not maintain runway centerline). Finally off, and a very bumpy & scary ride over the Catskills down to NYC. Must have been one 'Hellava Pilot'. In contrast my 707 Jet to OK was an incredible 'Strategic Air Command Jimmy Stewart experience.

I visited N112HT Sunday 48 deg and shoveled what could. The commercial hangers getting priority. May be weeks before we get a melt, and this in Not New England. Just have to be patient, but I am running out.

Re: Commander flight video

Great, would love to meet. I usually go out in July sometime when the weather stays pretty nice most the time. My flight path has me going between Jefferson Mtn and the sisters.

Re: Commander flight video

Michael, We're usually there during the July timeframe. Sisters Airport (6K5) was totally refurbished 2 years ago and is a good fuel stop.

Re: Commander flight video

Ken!!

Be careful out there. You were so low I could see the wake turbulence kicking up dust off the runway.

Re: Commander flight video

Ken, I see you don't fly single pilot PFR...:p

I thought you switched to draft horses last year too??

Re: Commander flight video

Ken, saw a little blade bounce at the end of the video - need to keep that blade loaded with dirt.
Looks like you have put out some lime or gypsum?

Re: Commander flight video

This video was taken from the Commander last year. First try with the Virb. The tail of a Commander is not a good Virb platform.

The weeds that you see have now all gone and the first runway should be ready for sprigging in about a month when it warms up.

Life is a barrel of fun.
