So I am based out of northern Illinois, and this spring we are supposed to have a massive cicada population boom, especially in Central Illinois. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of issues with flight during these times? I am hearing stories of people shoveling Cicadas off their sidewalk, which makes me a bit concerned for some trips I have planned around that time through central Illinois.

Am I being paranoid ?

Not paranoid - Texas has the grasshopper season. Fly high and carry stuff to clean the mess off.
For some reason this has started out as a very buggy spring.
Have had to use a pail and sponge on the leading edges after the last three flights.

(worst its been in the 20+ years I have owned the plane)

Option "B" is to fly through some rain.

There are Cicadas here a good bit. One thing about them, besides the noise, they seem kinda harmless. I don’t like ticks, most mosquitoes not much better. Down South Chiggers can be very annoying.

Just saying, I can think of worse than the noise of Cicadas.

Years ago we were overrun with " Love Bugs" in South Georgia. We would spray the leading edges and a foot back with PAM, It is an oil that is designed to stop food sticking to pans. Works really well and a water hose would wash off the bugs.
