I'm going to be in Los Angeles next Thursday the 26th August at a bit of a loose end.

Is anyone doing any Commander flying who would like a right seat passenger? I’m doing an FAA IR next year and It would be really useful to get a heads-up on your procedures (VFR or IFR). Never flown in he US before.

Thanks in advance

Lawrence.

Re: Calling Los Angeles COGers

Hi,
I am based at KOXR, 20 minutes from LA. I would be glad to show you the LA basin. There are many Commander pilots in the area. Let me know when you are available, and I can work out a schedule unless someone closer is able to do it.

Hi Lawerence,

I'm unavailable on the 26th. How long will you be in the area, and where will you be staying?

Re: Calling Los Angeles COGers

Thanks Berkeley and Vince.

I'm flying in to LAX on Wednesday 25th (Evening) attending a wedding in Redondo Beach on Saturday, rehearsal dinner Friday, Sunday head for Vegas, Leave Tuesday LAX (Evening). I have a rental car so I am mobile.

Suggesting Thursday as it the Bridal Shower, so my wife is otherwise occupied, however outside of the actual wedding and rehearsal, I'm flexible. My wife's entire family are in LA at the moment, so plenty to keep her distracted while I slip off for some flying.

I'll look forward to hearing form you and thank you for the offer.

Lawrence,
Thursday the 26th is good for me. Could we meet at VNY airport? VNY is the airport star of the movie 16R. There is a hotel there where we could meet. There is also a FAA office there if you need to get your US license.

Lawrence,

Sorry I'm not available on Thursday, but you'll be in great hands with Berkeley. Additonally, you'll be flying in a much newer TCA than mine (please note serial numbers).

Enjoy your visit and while driving here, don't forget to drive on the 'right' (correct) side of the road :)

Hi Berkeley,

That sounds great I'll send you a PM with my contact details. I was a bit late getting my CAA information release through, so won't be picking up my FAA license this time around. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your Commander on Thursday.

Thanks again.

Lawrence.

Vince, which side do I fly from then??????;)

Just wanted to round this thread off by thanking Berkeley for a great introduction to FAA IR procedures. What a nice man he is and what a great pilot, I just wish I was able to make the kind of stabilised approaches he demonstrated so skilfully around the LA area. Looks like I'll be back in February to get the FAA IR sorted out.

Re: Calling Los Angeles COGers

Way to go Berkeley :).

Maybe we can all get together when Lawrence returns in February.

Re: Calling Los Angeles COGers

Thanks Lawrence. I had a great time. Always looking for an excuse to fly. Glad you didn't show the picture of the CDI with half scale defections.
Give us a heads up when you return.
