Hey Texas guys, I have a meeting with the guvner of your great state on Tuesday in Austin. What would be the best airport to fly in to for convenience to the capitol? Would need a rental car also so FBO should have that facility.

Re: Austin airports

KAUS for proximity and has rentals etc. and is 15 to 20 minutes away from the capital.

Re: Austin airports

Definitely Bergstrom for that convenience. When are you going to be in? We'd love to meet for lunch or dinner or something that would meet your schedule. Wonder if your meeting is right before or after mine.. hmm..

Re: Austin airports

I looked at AUS and read 'high landing fees' and I saw high gas price, thought there may be something better but Airnav didn't provide any hope of that. So Bergsrom it is.

Dave, I will be in and out. Picking up two guys in Galveston who are in the meeting with me and I have to get them back same day.

Catch you next time through.

Re: Austin airports

Georgetown is right on I-35, maybe 15 minutes further from downtown. Taylor is a few min from the tollway, so just a touch more.

Cheap gas, though. If you want convenience, ya gotta pay for it.

The guvner uses AUS though... :)

...and who is paying for HIS fuel??? ;-)

Re: Austin airports

When ol' Rick is in East Texas, He has access to either Taz's or my amex for fuel, when he heads down to Houston, He just calls calls Judy who meets him at the airport and fills the jet up for him.

Re: Austin airports

If you haven't flown into Austin Executive lately, you should give it a try. Fuel isn't cheap, but the FBO is fantastic, and they have a covered ramp to park under. If you're there over the weekend, ask for their "Saturday fuel discount"... Great coffee, iced tea, and cookies in the lounge. Really nice people. I figure I save enough on Starbucks coffee to make up for the higher fuel cost...

Re: Austin airports

Just in Georgetown a few days ago and The folks at Aero Centex are that good that I wouldn't consider anywhere else if I am back in the area. (and gas under $5.00)

I have flown into there a couple of times and it IS very nice ... but at $2/gallon+ more per fuel ... well, that would buy a LOT of Starbucks!!!

Re: Austin airports

True during the week. Special fuel pricing on weekends makes it only about a 2-Starbucks difference for my little AA5... I flew in on a Thursday, and out on a Sunday, and they "volunteered" to hold off refueling until Saturday so I could get the best discount. Thought that was "above and beyond" service. Also very nice to come out Sunday afternoon to find the airplane sitting under the shade canopy, all ready to go. Great service. (Wife says "They make you feel like a VIP.")

But I like Georgetown also, and the AeroCentex folks are very nice.
