Because of a west coast business event, I have to leave my bird in Atlanda on Wednesday, Sept. 19, take a Delta nonstop to LAX, then return to ATL Friday until 10:15p. Figuring I could not depart from anywhere until 11p or after, I am not flying to Augusta till Sat AM.

So ... I have to leave 43W somewhere for 3 nights. Sigh. And it would be best to take Uber/Lyft to and from the local airport to ATL.. I have been into Charlie Brown (FTY), Peachtree-Dekalb, and Cobb County. Henry County looks interesting and simple but no hotel real close and getting a ride in the AM might be harder. Cobb is really far, PDK is a zoo and they will charge a high price for overnight. I am thinking FTY looks best. Hill aviation there shows no fee for single engine. There is a Signature as well ... don't even ask!

Just soliciting advice from anyone in the know.

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

Have you thought about flying out of Augusta? Round trips from there I see start at $393 round trip. Then when you return... Your there. :)

HMP

Just south of ATL. Nice, small (But long runways), friendly place. I have flown in there several times in order to meet people/drop off people.

It is right by the Speedway so there has to be hotels close by.

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

Last year, we flew into PeachTree (from SunNFun). Lots of hotels. The airport FBO drove us to the airport and the hotel's shuttle took us back. Really easy.

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

Scott,

It's west of FTY - 20GA is a very hospitable place with great fuel prices. http://www.stockmarairport.com/

When I went to the fly-in at Pine Mountain - I took 42W to 20GA the weekend before (minimize weather risk - VFR here) and they were great. I got a hangar for a week at a reasonable rate and scheduled it for Enterprise to pick me up at the airport. The return was similar, I drove by the Enterprise office and they took me to the airport. I used the Enterprise near 20GA.

Good luck

I second KHMP (Hampton, Ga aka Tara Field.) Atlanta Raceway is actually in the pattern it’s so close. I-75 runs through and close and fast to Hartsfield airport by Uber or lyft. Full service airport.

Morning Dean,

I show 20GA as a Private field, per that - I 've never considered using those types of fields. Did you just call and coordinate or did someone refer /sponsor you? Good idea . .

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

John,

I just called them about a month before my trip - they were really nice and I didn't need a sponsor. I couldn't have asked for better experience.

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

Thanks for all of the advice, guys.
I did check airfares going Augusta to LAX, of course, via ATL. They were twice as much. Delta runs about 10 nonstops a day from ATL to LAX and I got a round trip for $350. Add Augusta on and it doubled. And the times were not working very well.

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

Scott,

Have been in and out of FTY a couple of times and my daughter will attest that an Uber lift (pun intended) to/from ATL is no problemo. Think that gets a thumbs up for what you are planning.

Re: Atlanta Layover? Help!

Thanks for everyone's help on this. I was departing LAX about 3:00 PM PDT on Friday and an important business evert just came up that requires me to be in Phoenix that Sunday evening after ... so coming all the way back to Augusta GA now makes no sense, even if remotely doable. So the entire plan is off.

Sorry I will not make it this year. Watch over Lonnie & Pete for me.
