Pat Murphy asked me to post this.
It is the anniversary of the "Commanders Over Alaska" trip which was 12 years ago. It was a great time and the trip of a lifetime. And the best of people to be with. Attached is a map of the trip and flags with everyone's home base. FIRST OF THE DAY!!!

Yep that would be a trip of a lifetime, off limits this Summer with the border mostly closed.

Back in 1992 my wife to be & I flew the Al-Can in a Cherokee 140, 1966 model. We started from Meridian, MS. My buddies said we weren’t gonna make it in that. It was a great trip. We had a tent & camping gear, got an occasional hotel. We camped at the Fairbanks airport, then down to Tallkeetna, Merrill Field, Palmer, & Kenai. We came back through Gulkana(sp?).

We even hit Mackinac Island on the way back, and family in MI. I’d do it again, may have to recruit a different flying partner though, some people change over the years. I still have great memories of that trip.

I still check out the photos every couple of months, I had my two great nephews with me from England, they were no help at all, We left South Georgia and went to Olympia via Mexico, I will always remember the weight problems that we had, during the planning of the trip they were gaining weight every month. We had a weight budget of 9 lbs of clothes each, and then 12 lbs for the plane. Only time I have shopped at Walmart with a digital fish scale. Did you know that a new T shirt weighs three times as much as one that have been washed a dozen times.
I remember well leaving White Horse about 450 lbs over gross. I requested a back taxi to use the entire runway, controller stated that in twenty years I was the first plane to request that extra 150 feet. It was a slow climb, thank goodness that 377SB was a 112B with the extra long wings.

Life is a barrel of fun.
