Sven,

Any advice you can offer pertaining to vidio from a Commander on the AK trip would be greatly apreciated.

I do not have the time or expertise to research this subject.

Just a list of what to buy and where to buy it from and how to install it would save me a lot of time..

Please, I will blindly follow your advice.

And put up another tent to pay for it.

Ken,

Wouldn't the added weight of the camera, mounting brackets, and wires would require that you leave your shoes and shirts at home?

Ken, I have a complete set-up you can borrow for the trip. bracket and cables. Older but good. Like you.

Re: A day with my daughter

Frank - great comment ... lol

An ex-fighter jock pal sent this to me today. I am sure all of you recall the famous poem "High Flight" which was written by a Spitfire pilot in the RAF in WWII. Somehow, when I read this, I thought of Sven!

Low Flight
(Original Author Unknown - One version of this poem
was posted on rec.aviation.piloting on Aug. 2, 1994)
{ This edited version isfor F-4 Phantom jocks, our time is past}
Oh! I've slipped through the swirling clouds of dust,
a few feet from the dirt,
I've flown the Phantom low enough,
to make my bottom hurt.
I've TFO'd the deserts, hills, valleys
and mountains, where safe to do,
Frolicked in the trees,
where only flying squirrels flew.
Looked up at a lighthouse or two,
even disturbed the ram and ewe,
And done a hundred other things,
that you'd never want to do.
Just the guy in the back and me,
we’ve spent the night in terror of
things we could not see.
I've turned my eyes to heaven,
as I sweated through the flight,
Put out my hand and touched,
the master caution light.

Sven,

Very enjoyable video, thanks for sharing.

I envy you, because my wife won't let me take our kids flying until they're 18.
She doesn't care for small planes and claims that once the kids start flying with me, they'll refuse to drive with her on vacations.

She won't let me get a dog either.

At least she doesn't give me s#it for spending $'s on the plane or going to fly-ins without her.

Re: A day with my daughter

I am lucky, I guess. My wife won't fly, but she has no qualms about the kids going with me ... takes advantage of that to move them around ... and I got a new dog last year! I shall never complain again.

Re: A day with my daughter

On the flip side, imagine if they wanted to come everywhere with you!
Yikes. All would be too dangerous and you'd hear a lot more chat in the ICM for sure. (good thing for that pilot/pax switch)

A little space is good now and then.

She has a lot of confidence in me but that flying stuff is just plain boring. Both plane and flight.

To each their own again.

great point ... and really ... thinking about a lot of the, uhhhh ... "style" of flying that we (some of us) like to do ???? Ohmigod ...that would never fly, so to speak.

Both of my girls started lessons in their early teens. Their log books show about 3 hours each...then they decided that all the good flying hours occurred before they woke up each day.

Happy, but infrequent, passengers they are. Too bad, it is always a great time when they are up.

Re: A day with my daughter

Sven,

You'll have to tell me more about your landing at Hunter mountain. Not only was there snow, it looked a kittle thick too...

Re: A day with my daughter

On the low level consumer video software, I tried both pinnacle and cyberlink ultra suites.
Pinnacle could not handle the Sony HD m2ts files. Choppy/staccato, a general slow PIA.

CyberLink did it with ease.

Unfortunately, streaming the file for the Inet low qualitys them. The originals are unbelievably good quality.
:)

Re: A day with my daughter

Sven,

Thanks for the offer to lend me some vidio equipment.

We rent out A/V stuff and did a big job last night that allows me to spend some cash on new equipment that we will put in our rental fleet after the Alaska trip.

I have a niece over from the UK this week, she knows quite a big about all this AV stuff. She did all the live feeds for me last night.

We went to Circuit City today, looked a some stuff. with 30 gig hard drives.

Just want to mount center window like you do.

Then be able to down load to the new Fijutsi 2020 that we plan to carry.

For us weight is a big factor.

This will be a well documented trip, we need to find a way to share.

thanks all.

Ken, We will have to share to capture everything. For an example you cannot film your airplane in flight but someone could do that for you and vise versa. Sharing is going to be
the key.

Re: A day with my daughter

Ken - take a look at the diskless cameras. When you get rid of the hard drive you not only solve the altitude problem, but you save another 4oz of useful load.

A pocket full of SD cards is a pretty cheap way to get as much capacity as you need.

We use the Canon FS11 at work. 16GB built in, takes SD cards for more recording, mic jack, and image stabilization. Not HD but pretty darn nice and only about $400.

Re: A day with my daughter

Very jealous o f all you guys. Wish I was able to make this trip with all of you. I think it wil, be great fun.

With all of you recording video, and a few of you carrying tablet PC's, I'm wondering if you might be able to download your vids to the internet to save on storage space.

Either way I think we'll have one heck of a movie when you all get back.

Re: A day with my daughter

Ken and all:

Hard mounted cameras will NOT record on Hard drives. Hand held is OK. Digital tape is OK too. Make sure you have plenty of SD's with you.
Been there. Not too bad tho, HD video for me uses 4 gig /hour. 4 hours on a 16 gig stick. Seems plenty.

If your camera does not have a mic &or line input you will regret it severely! Videos with engine drum are BORING.

If any one needs a matching cable from ACFT ICM to cam corder let me know I can make up a few. If you want, simple tho. I have the Left and right camera inputs each tied to the headphone jack via 1-meg ohm on each leg and has worked great for years now.

Same goes for the mounting bracket. Soon I will experiment with different mounting postures for recording. (mmm, Maybe 2 cams.)

PS Ken, just trying to save ya buck.

Re: A day with my daughter

Sven,
I would be interested in a cable. I was looking on line for such a thing and there are some commercally available. Electronics aint my thing so there is no way I could make one up myself.

Re: A day with my daughter

Same here Sven, I'm working on a mount for the camera.
