Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Pat. Certainly Hope To Participate Again.. With Early Planning. Maybe you can arrange Great weather too!

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

I'm usually pretty up beat about get togethers. With the EAA's falling down on the information management front with their ground staff, we missed out the Commander fleet getting together for a fabulous bbQ at the North 40.

As I wondered around the North 40, trying to find the gang, I couldn't help put think about how disappointed I felt.

Just saying.

You are right. In years pass, we had a group come in early Saturday morning and we would be close, thanks to the Bunns. The only organized group that got together then was the Bonanzas.
I would like to get a Commander group location but we need to organize that early.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Pat,

I meet a gentleman who organizes the mass Mooney fly in.

Well organized and lots of comrodery. A side benefit, was that the Tower gives them their own procedure. No need to go to Fisk, etc.

Was a very interesting conversation to say the least.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

I had a good talk about the North 40 Fiasco last summer with Cody Welch, a friend an EAA Board Member. He said when they had their debriefs, everyone was mortified about that and that every effort would be made to prevent that from happening in the future. I have flown in the something like 13 of the past 16 years, and never had it happen before, so I am guardedly optimistic!

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Is is possible to 'block' some spots for camping together? I know it would be different than the usual arrival then flag to the next open spot.

A few other options would be an organized 'mass arrival' or a more casual, plan to arrive at the same time type arrival. It's hard to do much more than the GAC or GAP type signage in arrival, as far as communication goes. We may need a 'ground coordinator' greasing the skids somewhat.

You are on the right track. We have a number of members that camp at Scholler. Last year we had some close campsites. It was more timing than planning.

Option 1. We can reserve sites with electric close to each other. It cost more for electric and water and you must start to pay when you reserve the site. Most sites are full at least 1 week ahead of the show.
Option 2. Reserve up to 6 sites as an EAA chapter for $243 each. No generator area or handicap area.
Option 3 One person arrive early, Friday before the show, and stake out sites together, the payment would start at that time.
Option 4 all arrive at the same time. Mass arrival

The decisions on camping should be made by July 1.
We prefer to camp because we take our dogs. I have flown in early, staked out my site, flown home and then driven to the show. about 300 miles

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

I fly in, I was right by a couple other commanders last year camping by 27.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

I’m in and I bet long termers will be to.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Conor and I would go with the group. We'd have to pick a place to meet up before.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

UGN is great because there is a huge area next to the SS pumps that is wide open for parking and you do not have to use or register with the FBO.

That's exactly where they parked us;)

Easy walk to FBO, where Todd did his thing and talked them out of the courtesy car for the entire day.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Hey gang,

I've been to both KUGN and Racine (KRAC). Both are great spots.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Not a lot going on here, many of us will be at Oshkosh. Yes, it’s hard to park together, unless part of a ‘mass arrival’. The next option is to fly the arrival near the same time, maybe loose in trail, and be fairly close in the camping rows.

After that one can post row or phone numbers and settle for camping a few rows away. I live 70-some miles away, so I stay flexible with options. This year I have most of the week available, so it would be a good one to set up the tent. Right now I’m thinking early to midweek. The last few years it’s been full by Monday morning, for daily parking anyway.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Joe
PM me about your arrival date so we can get together. We camp at Scholler because of our dog. We will be there Saturday morning in time to watch the Bonanza mass arrival and stay until Wednesday. We like to be there before the spectator crowd arrives.
I see you on Flightaware but it shows you at Burlington VT not Wi.

Re: 2018 Commanders at Oshkosh

Pat, he showed up in Vermont because he picked up his airplane from Jim at Aerodyme just the other day after a yearlong upgrade! Isn’t Jim in Burlington Vt?
My Oshkosh plans have been trashed by two things; an employer who cannot hire people to cover our vacation schedule and a sick engine from last night’s attempted flight to the cabin. Of course I could drive, but who wants to do that...
