OK, WAY ahead of things for 2012, just putting it down so we don't forget. Nemacolin Resort in SW Pennsylvania just got a great writeup in one of the aviation mags. Seems like maybe this came up once, but the only potential flaw, looking at the satellite view, could be parking. But I did see that the Cirrus Owners Association had a regional fly-in there. Easy enough to make the call, I guess. Anyway, would be good to give our large and loyal NE contingent a break one year.

Re: 2012

It's a neat location. It was under consideration the year we went to Boyne. Going to be pricey for rooms. Wide variety of diversions (golf, drinking, skeet, drinking, horseback riding, drinking, hiking, antiquing... did I mention drinking? Other airports nearby for fuel as local fuel is steep. Really pretty area in fall. Lots of hardwood forest surrounding resort.

Re: 2012

Scott I can bring alcohol, tobacco, and firearms if you can bring the chips.

Re: 2012

I also just received a nice proposal package from Dayton. We've also considered that location in the past. Lots of great aviation-related activities in that locale.

As long as Pete is there, antiquing is covered!

Re: 2012

Nemacolin Resort is a fantastic place. They really catered nicely to my family from the moment we landed to the time we left. Countless things to do from golf, tennis, Hummer course, skeet shooting, horseback riding, zip lining, fly fishing, spa, etc.......we loved it!

Re: 2012

Nemacolin was just awarded the final Category 3 Gaming license in PA. I believe that means that they will have some type of gaming (slots at least), but you have to stay at the resort to gamble. Not sure when they plan to open though.

Re: 2012

as I recall reading that a few wks. ago, rooms $300-$700. a night; even w/a COG discount, that's wild. we could do pop-up tents alongside of the airstrip? very nice place, tho.

Re: 2012

Well crap ... $300 is not going to "fly." Had to be a fatal flaw, I guess. Hey, Lake Genever, Wisconsin, was a very close contender when we went to Boyne. Just over the Illinois border. Not so far north and reasonably priced, as I recall. Ah, well, we can worry about that after Sedona.

Speaking of which ... It is May, and not a word on registration or anything. Who's in charge this year? All you westerners agitated to get a site out there ... let's see some action !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! given fuel prices, it will take some work to entice a good crowd to go that far.

Re: 2012

Dayton Moraine is very interested and the rooms would be far more reasonable. Plenty of aviation stuff around. Good art museum w/ short drive. Would not have the visual appeal of any of our recent fly-in hangouts.

Never hurts to pitch Nemacolin... perhaps w/ enough airplane drivers coming in, they'll plan on making up a room discount in the restaurant or casino.

Re: 2012

Does Lake Geneva have enough ramp space for us, I just flew in there Sunday and it seemed fairly small ramp-wise...?

Dave

Re: 2012

Well, 2 years ago they "said they did," between the ramp space and grass. Something we always check, though.

Re: 2012

I've been to Old Rhinebeck a long time ago. It was quite fun. Not sure if they still have the Sunday show or not. In any event, its a great part of NY.

Scott,

All good things take time. Stay tuned, there are a number of folks who have been working very hard on the Sedona Fly-In, and the registration site should be up within the next week or so. Look forward to seeing you and whoever can make it in September :)

Re: 2012

Thanks, Vince ... I was on the receiving end of that so many times during COG Annual meeting planning, I just thought I'd throw some at you! I am sure it will be a great event.

Re: 2012

Old Rheinbeck still does shows.

Hey in all the discussion about activities at Fly Ins how come no one mentions atmosphere for romance?

Are Ian C and Lonnie the only romantics in the group along with me?

Hey as long as we're talking East fly ins remember we thought Jekyll Island again would be worth a repeat fly in.

Re: 2012

Hey,
lets keep the costs down, A nice airport with a "Days Inn" next door would work.

Us folks with "twin" Commanders have to count the pennies.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Re: 2012

Althought I haven't made it but to one Fly in, I like the idea of having it inconjunctin with outer nearby aviation activities or even an airshow. Doesn't have to be a big show, but a good aviation museum or something special, like a seminar on formation flying with several practice sessions, video taping and performance reviews.

Just thinking out loud, but I must add that I truly appreciate all the hard work to make every year's event special. Yes, I am hoping to attend this year.
