I don't think we should let Lonnie try to land on the grass under no circumstances, god knows what can happen. Last time he tried landing on the turf and i was there to witness it, he got smoked pretty good, literally.

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

Watched that episode and burned into my memories of hysterical moments. Like watching Wylie Coyote mugging for the camera just waiting to be run over by the oncoming train.

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

All I can say is ... having flown with Lonnie for a couple of hours in that tiny bird with the tundra tires of his .... I am still picking grass blades out of my teeth! Lonnie and that bird together are "the bomb." No doubt he would try similar things with his Commander.

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

"WOULD try" ??? Think there are some missle batteries in various pastures w/ his tail number painted on the tips of some of their ammo.

That looks so dangerous would not want to get out of my comfort zone!

I have located a better Bob Hoover video. It is the one that my video was dubbed from and mine was dubbed to get to the video that was distributed and is on the web site. I will have it at the Fly-In. It will be digital if someone wants to copy it.

Can you upload it if I give you FTP access? Send me a PM.

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

Sounds like fun. Especially if we can also work in an 'Old Time Train Ride' that Michael mentioned. Hoping to convince Camellia to 'Fly with Me' Again. Took her to the Bahamas in the 90's, and Cape Cod & Maine for Lobster. Okla & Oshkosh under the wing many times. BTW- anyone planning Oshkosh this year? My AZ cousin wants to go.

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

A fly-out to the Moonlight BBQ would be excellent. Let's scout a piece of the river between Louisville and OWB that has no wires ... I see about 20 commanders flying down the river at about 100 feet, all in a row. That would be gorgeous. 5 min. from OWB to Moonlight and they will pick up however many we have come.

Why not! Was once #14 for landing -E along N shoreline of LISound at Bridgeport CN. Every minute a bird banking left for final -just magnificent!
However, Scott, You would need to be W at the legal '500' flying toward the 20 Commanders in line @ 100ft- to make the video!
(Since you have the equipt) !:)

Safer to do a ground shot like the one from Jekyll.

A brief video passed along about West Baden Springs by an " independent source". May help get the juices flowing for this Fall.

Check it out and plan to join in the fun!

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

Bill: "Juices flowing".
A few years back (2006) we drove one of my restored '76 Jensen GT(s)(Lotus 907 getrag 5 spd) to a meet in Springfield Ill via Cincinatti, Prospect KY (Louisville) and then through the Southern Indiana 'rolling hills'. As one who grew up in upstate NY (Mohawk Valley/ Griffiss Air Base), I was most surprised at the territory. I never expected Indiana to remind me of 'Greater New England'. All my 60's and 70's drives to Oklahoma were thru the northern Indiana flatlands, and never knew S Indiana bordering the Ohio R. was so enticing! In '09, the Indiana Jag club hosted a Challenge Championship, also including a tour/rallye through these S. Indiana areas. Most memorable as well.

I got the ANNUAL signed off and all logbooks updated also. Includes all documentations for the the 'field rebuilt engine ' (Not an overhaul but) everything but the case, crank & cam is 'NEW' (bearings, tappets) acessories; and every cylinder is with essentially all new parts aas well, etc. So this coming week plan to do the first 'Lycoming specifications' actual 'break-in flight. If plans hold my AZ cousin (& son) and I will "Do Oshkosh" and THE FALL COG Gathering. Can't really express the joy and satisfaction of bring the COMMANDER back to 'Airworthy Condition".

Thanks everyone. Larry Bird is hiding in the bushes.

Re: 2012 COG Annual Fly-in

There's wine tasting too at the French Lick Winery. I think we should make a trip there!
