Got my S.S. Sedona certificate in the mail today!

Vince, we have a meeting in downtown LA on Thursday and don't think we can make it back in time for lunch. Hummmm...

Was the recent Sedona tragedy at the same place as last years Fly-in? A twin with a former Olympian and two 14 yr old boys off the runway.

Yes

Can be a very unforgiving airport, especially when it is hot.

Witness said both engines were running and making power...plane was in Sedona for 3 days...possible a control lock was not removed?

Report made mention of taking on fuel just before takeoff. Eyewitness pilot said both engines sounded normal until aircraft disappeared over edge of mesa. Runway showed skid marks at end of runway from apparent attempted braking before going through fence.

They were taking off downhill (21) although I noticed during our stay that the prevailing winds were favoring rwy 03 (uphill) each morning then shifting to 21 in the around noon. Doesn't mean they were southerly that morning. Witness indicated that another aircraft had taken off same direction shortly before and appx halfway down runway. Seems to discount downwind departure.

Way too early to know. Witness stated he rotated but did not liftoff. Would be difficult w/ control lock in place. Some elements of an over gross departure (for conditions). Did he lean before departure? Being from NM, you would think that would be standard but perhaps a distraction? Will be interesting to see what NTSB thinks happened. Sometimes they never know for certain.

This might be a tough one for them to come to a conclusion on.. Not much left after the fire.
