2010 cog fly-in location

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Rick,

I will be taking Beth to JAX to fly commercial home on Sunday. I need to be in Americus, GA on Monday so I'm staying over, but i'd be happy to pick up when you arrive and bring you back on Sunday.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Not the best of news...

I'm sorry to say I will not be able to make the Fly-In this year.

I was really looking forward to seeing all of you again, unfortunately business will be keeping me back here at Reading.

I was able to arrange for some door prizes and giveaways for the Fly-In through a few of my vendors. So, even though I won't be there I will still have some goodies for you. I will be working with the powers that be to arrange to get everything to the Fly-In. In fact if anyone is heading down through the Eastern Pennsylvania area, I have a box to go the Fly-In

Again, sorry I am unable to attend, but this is something I have to do at this time...

Sorry for the Re-Post - The original showed up back on page 1 or 2 somewhere. Not sure what I did there.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Sis: What is the deal re cancellations. We are coming in from Canada and the weather isn't co-operating at this moment. We may make it or we may not so I need to know what the policy is for last minute canx. Thx.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Hi Terry hey you should have warned the COG Fly-In committee earlier - we arranged for good Wx all over teh East coast wouldn't have been too much core expensive extending it to Canada unless Transport Canada had a special user fees!:<)

The hotel will take your 1 day as a late cancel. But I can help avoid so let me know ifd you can't make it on the day you planned but can the day later or even if you cancel entirely.
What I'll do is pass your room to a unreserved arrival and save the deposit. Call me Thu and let me know at the numebr above.

Hope you amke it.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

I did a AIRPORT AND ISLAND VISIT TODAY - courtsey of Richard V (delta Captain & airport operator) he is going all out to accomodate us - we can place the tent anywhere etc.

The hotel definitely has charm and the island offers a lot of activites - hotel has bicycles and the island horsesto ride for rent. Its very relaxed and the hotel very 19th century elegant but not ostentatious.

For the NorEasters = good VA fuel stops are:
PVG SFQ - both 10 S of Norfolf with self service @ $3.68/fgal and with airport restrurants.

Then SSI 7 nm N of 09J has discoiunted fuel due to Richard's persuaion to $4.29/gal Golden Isles tell them Commander group

Will pass on more on the island tomorrow morning.

SID SID SID SID not ken.

Sid did this on my putor so my name shows up.... Sid went to Jakyll today not ken..

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location Jekyll ISland info

Hi everyone can't find my iPhone charger - so try me on my Verizon phone 757 570 5808. Ken Andrew's tent company will put up their tent today on the South side of teh airport in a very scenioc spot. My email is AvSid@cox.net.

Airport
The airport has about 16 Ramp tie downs the rest of us will park on the grass near the tent for good photo op. Be sure to bring tie downs with you and remeber the FlyExchange bring stuff we can even lock-up items in Ken's big truck. We can run the FlyExchange Friday & Saturday especially during the BBQ & the Panel Discussion.
Richard V is a great guy and has gone out of the way to welcome us to Jekyll Island. He
The cute little airport cottage FBO has restrooms & WiFi. His crew will tow us over to the parking near our Commander HQ tent which will serve as the center for Plane Fondlers. You will be supplied with cold liquid refershments in a variety of types courtsey of Ken Andrew in the tent.

Transportation
There's a request shuttle that can take you anywhere on the islad. There're Red Bugs (Chrysler street legal up to 35mph electric cars) to rent right at the airport and there are charging stations in parking lots all over the island including teh hotel & beach. Red Bug contact number is 912 635 9330

Hotel
The hotel is a grouping of manisions of the rich & famous Vanderbilts, Rockerfeller, etc. They have a very toney old style atmosphere resturant with table coths and everytyhing for those who want to confess their sins to their significant others in a romatic atmosphere garunteed to gain forgiveness. They serve Victorian tea there!
Our Thu evening (on our own) dinner is in the less formal Crane courtyard which is still very much in atmosphere. Will have all this on the 1 page Activittes sheet for you when you come in.

PS Request - I can't find my iPhone charger so please those of with iPhones or iPods please let me use it as I doubt I'll be able to buy one on the island.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Rick we sure hate to hear that. We miss yall and wish you were here. I even played golf yesterday was dissapointed though. I only had 3 hole in one's on a 18 hole coarse.

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location

Good Morning everyone as usual Lonnie the early bird beat us all to the Board -despite teh liquid refreshments he had last evening.
We are going to cancel the group fly-off to St Augustine because it takes too much shuttle time between SGJ and the old town (30 minutes) so it will eat too much out of the day.

One suggestion for fun local flights -
Flights around the local GA barrier Islands. Take-off 2 airplanes (with at least 2 people per airplane) at a time. The next pair leaves 3 minutes later. Everyone flies a pre-discussed route that does not turn back- so depart E fly N along the coast and sightsee along the barrier islands. When done turn W inland for a distance of 5 miles. Fly S for 09J or right over the SSI airport and come back and land.

We can loook at the map and see the reccomended sightseeing points recommended by Richard V the operator of 09J.

Just for local flying he suggests we can fly the beach and we can also fly the inland waterway/river to the W & S of the airport.

Reminder - BBQ this evening begins at 6:00 PM in Ken's tent at the S end of theairport. Sunset is about 7:10PM and the view from Ken's tent is spectacular. We have a 6 seat Red Bug to move people from the hotel. This will also serve as a potty transport so you can use the facilities in the airport building. We have beer & wine available for consumption as well as soft drinks.
