2009 Alaskan Tour

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

We flew to Barrow yesterday spotting several herds of caribou. Saw a couple grizzly bears and even a and a grizzly sow with her cubs. We flew back to Bettles via Antigun pass (what a trip!). Heading down to Anchorage today to meet back up with Ian, Pete, Ken and Pat and our tour guide Dale. See the blog. www.fuzzytravel.com/cog

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

Better get a bigger gun Lonnie or plan on pumping the whole clip into him. One shot will just piss off a big bear.

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

What a fantastic trip and a super reporting job to all of us who couldn't go. I am green, purple, pink with envy. Thanx so much for sharing your experiences with the rest of us. Thankful that evreyone has returned home to safety.

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

This is going to be one of those memories you keep for ever; I feel happy for all you that were able to make this trip together.

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

Lonnie, a .45 is no good for bear. Get a can of peas, cut a hole in the ice and line the hole with the peas. Then when the bear comes up to take a pea you run up behind him and kick him in the icehole.

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

Whoa! Just found read this on Bill Bailey's Facebook page:

Bill Bailey Calamity today... birdstrike departing Ketchikan. Didn't have to land in a river like Sully but the gull did cause significant damage to the left wing. We rolled 90 degrees to miss him and the maneuver looked promising until he rolled back into us. Good news is it didn't come through the windshield or leave the aircraft uncontrolable. No one hurt but plane is going to factory to replace wing skins. $$$

I saw the pictures on Ken Andrew's blog this morning. Doesn't look pretty, but I'm glad he spoke with CPAC and may have a solution. Hope he can fly it back from OLM to CGI without too much paperwork (or climb/flight problems).

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

Ouch. Sorry to read of this. Glad all are healthy though.

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

Frank ... I lost the link to Ken's blogsite. Please post. Thanks. Got an email from Ken awhile ago and he sounds great ... looks like he and the boys managed their weight restriction issues with aplomb.

Re: 2009 Alaskan Tour

reading through it day by Day. It is fantastic. Ken should get "Uncle of the year" award from some official Brit institution.
