Basically it's the difference between having a throttle knob that works, and having a throttle knob that doesn't work. In an NA airplane above around 7 - 8kft the throttle doesn't do anything. You just push it all the way forward and forget about it - like driving a Yugo on the freeway - mash your foot to the floor - that's all you got! With the Hot Shot the throttle knob works all the way up to 18kft, and beyond - there's always more

Here’s a true story from a couple of days ago. I had sent my turbo controller out for overhaul. After installing it, I took it up to 12.5K to check it out. I was a little past half throttle at 25” MP. Pushed the throttle forward and 71W actually leaped forward and set me back in the seat. Before the overhaul, which they said was outputting nothing (NA) I was max throttle at 23.8 MP at 7.5 K. I am sold on the performance of the HS!

that's the speech I understand.
Throttle forward - loud, throttle back quiet.
This works great below 8000ft.

By the way, what components need to be upgraded on an IO-540T4B5D to get a hot shot system?
What are the prices across the pond?
Who is allowed to carry out the retrofit?

I know, new questions...BUT...

No change in overhaul. But you get a new exhaust, and fuel pump, so no point replacing/overhauling them.

Aound 45K + shipping + install, but most of the install is covered by the fact that you're overhauling your engine at the same time.

I have a contact in Stuttgart that's done them before. Are you anywhere near there?

Stuttgart is in western Germany. Our airfield is in the "Far East" of Germany near the Polish border.
But the distances are relative, compared to US distances, about 700 km (370 NM).

If I understand correctly, the conversion does not necessarily have to be done in your workshop. Any licensed aircraft repair shop can do this?

What does the conversion kit contain?

In your first message you mentioned that the costs might go down if enough interested parties were found. Am I the only one?

I have 1 partial 114HS kit left in my inventory. If someone is willing to do all of the leg work necessary to find the remaining components they'd be able to save a lot of money. The missing components are all of the standard aircraft turbo components used on 100's of thousands of turbocharged aircraft flying all over the world. These parts are not rare by any means, but oddly enough they are hard to come by. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to turbonormalize they're 114, and doesn't mind spending some extra time.

Kevin, you could do what I did. Since this may be the last available offering for it (at least for awhile), I bought Carl’s hot shot last year and mothballed it because I wasn’t ready to do the install at the time. It’s being installed next month.

Thanks Rob, but I just dropped over $70k for all the work, and not sure I'm up for spending another $45k. Lol. I suppose if I were 20 years younger, it may make sense, but I'm in my 60's and probably should be content with a fresh engine. Likely my one and only, and last overhaul, of my flying career. The next $45k is going into fancy toys inside the plane. Congrats on your upcoming install, and look forward to hearing how it works out.
