New member - looking at buying a Commander 114

You are on the right track - get your IR and Commercial certificate to help minimize what will still be a large premium for a low time pilot. My 23 year old son is PPL, MEL, IR, Commercial and has type ratings in a TBM 700/850, PA46, and soon King Air type rating through SimCom. 600 hours...

Michael, you speak English better than most people I work with every day. Of course, those from Great Britain would say that we don't speak English in Texas anyway. Good luck in your search. You will get some great advice here. And, you are correct - the Commander is a great airplane to own...

    2022 Fly-In?

Michigan would be a great spot. I went to an engineering conference many years ago at some resort on the Western shore of Michigan. Benton Harbor? It was a big white hotel. Really nice.

    2022 Fly-In?

One plus of Fort Collins, is that it is right on the Front Range - which means good DA for NA aircraft but yet you are right at the edge of the Rockies for easy automobile trips into the mountains. That area (Front Range around Denver) has experienced explosive growth over the past 10 years so...

    2022 Fly-In?

Dustin Hot Springs is a great place to fly into. My wife and I flew in last year for the first time. Great airport too. All you got to do to get a good shot at getting a Hot Springs fly in is to volunteer to put it on! Sante Fe is great too, and is not hard to fly into for NA airplanes.

    New user- Chicago suburbs

Let's get this out of the way - yes they are slower than a Bonanza. But.... 1. They were designed for full size pilots and not midgets (nothing wrong with being a midget though). You can fly the airplane without touching your co-pilot. This is very important in this day of social distancing...

New Member - Greetings from Arkansas! (KSUZ)

Dustin, congratulations on the purchase! You made a very smart decision. Probably going to be hard to top it for the rest of your life! If you want to see a great cross section of Commanders, make the short flight down to Rusk County TX KFRI down in NE Texas. You can see: 112 Hot Shot 114...

    Do I fit?

Bottom line - the AC11 airframe is the largest SEL low wing airplane that I know of. Plus, it has a pilot's side door to make entry very easy. That being said, the Cessna 206T and the 210's (no longer produced), would be the high wing equivalent - extremely roomy and even easier entry / exit...

    Do I fit?

My two sons are 6'4" and 6'6" respectively. They range from 225 to 245 lbs. The 6'4" one is a 23 year old commercial pilot. He says that my Commander has the most room of any GA aircraft he flies. He has a full inch of clearance on top of his head even with a Bose headset on. He flies PA46s...

    Boston, Family Visit

Good video (as usual). I have started using oxygen at lower altitudes as well. 10,000 MSL for sure and even sometimes on long flights slightly lower. It makes me feel better and keeps my oxygen level at close to 99.

I let a friend of mine keep his V35 Bonanza in my hanger. His airplane looks like a juvenile airplane next to mine.

    Rusty Pilot

And just to be clear....I do NOT recommend buying an airplane sight unseen and without ever having even seen one in person before. I got very lucky. I used to do things like that years ago when I was younger. I think that was 3 years ago.

    Rusty Pilot

Bill, Good luck in your search. I was a "Rusty" pilot too who got back into aviation after a long absence. Also - I bought my Commander sight unseen and without myself ever even seeing a Commander in person much less sit in one or fly one. I found mine (with Judi's help) on Long Island and...

    Jekyll island arrivals

We made (or my wife made) the decision to not go to the fly in but to fly up to Madison WI to visit our son and his family. That great "tailwind" was a horrific headwind all the way from launch in Texas up to Madison yesterday. I finally made the decision to drop down to 5,000' the last hour...
