Hi Bill,About those wingtip power supply units. I am seeing an Aeroflash 152-0007 on the left. I used a little electrical contact cleaner on it and couldn’t get any satisfaction. I loosened and then tightened the ground with no effect either. The unit flashed twice after it had been on...

    New Gear Pumps

If your gear motor/pump hasn’t been apart since it was new, you wouldn’t believe the mess that the brushes have created inside that little black motor case. It reminds me of the black lava found on the big island of Hawaii, only soft and gooey.

David, is the Trio autopilot still a possibility? I would like to put my name on the list if I could, which would make me number 9 I believe. Thanks, Rolf Ringgold 1974 112A no. 215

On the original aircraft, the wingtip strobe lights utilized a small box out near the wingtips ( one on each side). I believe it’s a capacitor/transformer two to four times larger than a pack of cigarettes. Once you remove the wingtip, you unplug the wiring from the box to the lights (...

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

Just returned from Airventure. Three days of almost totally clear skies, temps in the low to mid 80’s and a light breeze most of the time. Textbook Airshow weather. I watched four or five Commanders arrive, but only met up with one . Admittedly, I didn’t search anyone out , but it seemed like a...

    Commander makes the Instagram!

Scott, we buzz up north to Bay Lake between Brainerd and Aitkin MN. We have been renting a hangar at KAIT ( July & August ) for the last few years, mostly for protection from T-storms. Flying up doesn’t reduce our commute time, but it’s way more fun! Only on the big holidays when you have to...

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

Dave, just talk aviation the entire time you are there. Watch the ultralights fly early in the morning and again at 7pm. Check out the antique and classic airplanes on display. Wander up to the warbird area and count the P-51’s parked in rows! Take the bus over to the seaplane base and watch...

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

Is anyone else planning on flying in to Airventure this year. I have yet to decide whether to fly in early ( the Friday before) or wait until Wednesday. It seems that it fills up over the weekend and if you attempt a Monday arrival, you are going to be diverted to Fond Du Lac.

    July 4th Grand Oaks

If and when I grow up, I want to be just like Ken and stage fly-ins in my own back yard!

Congrats on your new ratings! I love the idea of a second career. The idea of reservations at the steakhouse in Fredericksburg sounds wonderful but I won’t know if we will attend, I should know sometime in August, if that helps. Ann is taking some medical treatments and our attendance depends...

Carl, you didn’t mention if it is for a 112 or a 114? They are different aren’t they?

Southeast Commander Pilots: How's the winter flying weather?

Willem, if you have time to spare, go by air ( VFR in a small airplane ). I am no expert on flying in the SE, but 3 out of the 4 April trips ( Sun n Fun ) I have flown have been modified or abbreviated by the weather systems that sit across the Florida panhandle. I still want to go back. Three...

    112 Hot Shot

William, Carl has stopped producing the Hot Shot conversions (at least for now). My advice to you is that if you plan on flying above 10K, over mountains or just to fly over some weather ( at least in a 112), buy one of the turbocharged birds . My 112 is not, and even with a low time engine...

    Only in a Commander

Charlie, I hope my wife doesn’t read this thread, because she will expect me to pick up and deliver on Sundays like you and Amazon! But hey, what a great use of your Commander!
