  • Phil, All Commander owners are lucky to have someone as knowledgeable, kind and dedicated to our fleet as you are. I did buy your knobs which is a handsome easy upgrade.
I took have a 112, mine is serial #391 which I assume I could use a gear check valve as a backup. If you have any more available, I would like to purchase one.
Thanks again for all you do!

    Hi Phil,
Through a contact at Parker I was able to get a quote on the GUCV,s you’ve been working on.
Can you let me know your email so I can send you the drawing and correspondence.
    thanks,Bill

I manufacture the GUCV. Are you talking about the Gear Down Check Valves? I have a valve manufacture that is already making a replacement that requires a slight plumbing change on aircraft. But you can send what you have.
Not sure which one you need but, I have a down switch.
I just recently had the up switch installed.
That company made mine and they are outstanding. They are easy to work with and will set the up and down pressure for you. Forget how long it took to get -- it was not fast. Give them a call and give them the pressures. I had them mark the up and down switch so that I did not get them mixed up.

Nice switch, I just have a few concerns. It is 1/4 NPT, we use 1/8th NPT. The unit requires a special connector that you would need to wire into the electrical system. The one I am looking at uses three 6-32 screws that can take crimp terminals and doesn't look like it will not work in the Piper and Commander applications as a dual-purpose pressure switch. I am looking for basically a plug and play switch in both applications.

Thanks for the information. It may be an option?.

    Dont know what it is?
That's awesome!!! you were in during Desert Storm uh??? That was some real stuff going on back then!!! humvee's with plastic doors LOL... I served in Fort Drum, NY and the motor pool was full of them

I've always wanted to become an officer or Warrant officer, but ended up leaving after 4 years (after getting married) ... It was a good run!

Thank you for the info on the pump.. let me know if can connect to both wires... I would love to see the light every time the pump is running.

    thanks

    Marcos.

You can connect to both wires but you'll need diods so you don't back feed. Tony Varga is a smart guy (PropPilot) ask him how to wire it and I'll bet he provides a schematic.

Were you a CW2 in the Army? I was an E4 long long long time ago.

Yes, I was a CW2. Flew UH1U's and AH1S's . I was enlisted from E1 to E5. Then I went back in as a warrant and attended the flight training school. 1982 through 1993. Served in the 101st 2nd of the 17th Air Cavalry, 354th Med Evac and the 3rd of the 158th Attack Helicopter group.
Hey Phil... the other message page it's letting the respond.

Great!! thank you so much. The green wire is the gear up positive. I will attach to that for sure. Should we only attached to the gear up? How about when the gear goes down?

I was hoping to light up the indicator light every time the pump is running (either up or down) so if doesn't stop, I can pull the circuit breaker.

If connecting only to the green wire, will it light going down as well?? or just up?

    I appreciate any information.

    Thank you
    Phil

Got a quick question for you. I ran a wire for a hydraulic landing gear pump indicator to my dash. My mechanic will install it for me, but out of curiosity and just to make sure he doing it right (I am the first one he is doing it) which wire on the pump does he connect it to?

The light on the dash is grounded, so one leg is going all the way to the back to get the positive. By looking at these pics, can you tell me where to connect the positive? It that on top of the pump?

    Hey Phil

Quick question: Have you ever made a baffle set for a commander 112? My is getting worn and it will be time to replace it soon. I know some guys here digited the baffle kit for the 114, do you have anything for the 112?

    I appreciate it

    Marcos.

Sorry Marcos not a clue for 112. I would just fix or fabricate my own. not that hard. You may want to check with an on the field Experimental aircraft builder or A&P. They can probably fix what is warn out or fabricate to replace it.
Hey Phil, I know this is a hard to answer question, but with an owner assisted annual, what is typically your time frame for an annual on a 112? assuming no squawks.

I do a lot of the work under the supervision of my A&P/AI but he is getting older and has a lot of clients. So sometimes, but bird may get grounded for a month or more just waiting on him. He is awesome, but SUPER SLOW!!! like DMV slow haha!

I do all preventive maintenance and stay on top of things, so my annuals (the last 3 at least) has been pretty much inspections only. I do not defer anything, if something breaks, I try to fix it right away.

I've seen some folks get together and do weekend annuals. Is that something that you're used to do?

    I appreciate it.

    Marcos.

If the cowlings are off, interior seats removed, tailboom access trim panel in the cargo area removed, it's on jack stands and ready to be inspected. I'll do the engine area, (prop hub grease, spinner and backplate inspection, Plugs removed cleaned and gapped, Compression check, Oil filter open, oil change, Gaskolator, general maintenance. Interior inspection, cable inspection, gear dump, lube all the control pivots, repack wheel bearings and go through tailboom, elevator, and rudder. That is with the owner working right along side me with wrench in hand. Any additional maintenance or new concerns will take whatever time it needs. If you want to make sure everything is safe and airworthy between 10 and 15 hours. This is on a maintained aircraft with constant preventive maintenance being done throughout the flight cycles. figure about a grand for inspection and paperwork done with owner assisting.
    Phil,

Are you going to be doing owner assisted annuals? If so, I would be very interested this coming winter.

Phil, how’s the research on the Epoxy for the chip detector coming along?
    UH1CW2

Good, I had a redesign, but everything is coming along. Once it is all validated, I'll post it on the forum. about 4 more months.
Thanks for sending the gauges. I finally got around to opening the package and one of them has a stuck needle at or about around 250lbs.
I have pushed the button on top, which looks like a reset button, but no luck.

If it is resettable, advise how I could do that. Or, is it defective?
I have a picture of it if you need it.

Frank, I'll send you out another gage. I am wondering if the packaged was hit hard or dropped during shipping process. Send a picture. I'd like to see what happened as it would take a massive hit to the gage to shifty a needle.
