  • Hi Lawrence. I have been following your post about the IO540 in a 112. I was wondering if you could tell me why it is that an IO540 is safe (fuel wise over in the EU), but not the IO360 that is in your bird?

Secondly, your dilemma is making me think about a solution that is a little out there but just thought I would mention. I have always wanted a 112B with a hot shot (I know yours doesn't currently have the hot shot). So if you are wanting a 114 I just thought what are the chances of a swap. It may not be the best idea, again, it will probably just be something we throw out there and then nothing ever happens but it was just a creative solution in my mind.

    Cheers.

That is an interesting thought, however my 112B would need a new engine before being Hot Shotted and I believe Carl has stopped producing the upgrade kit anyway.

The reason you can’t use a UL fuel in an IO 360 C series is because it is a high compression engine. The IO540 is not. The high compression engines need the octane level to be at 100 so an unleaded fuel would need to be about 102 octane to compensate. The TEL boosts the effect of the available octane.

I’d hang onto your 114 if I were you, I only have 960lbs useful load including fuel. That only gets worse with a turbo conversion.
Hello. I am in the hunt for a 114 but have come across a somewhat rare 112B model nearby. I have been looking for the 114 for a while and so far have had no luck. Was wondering if you could tell me what it is like to have a 112B? Does the bigger wing give you a little better climb performance than the 112A? Have you ever wished you spent the extra $$ and got a 114 or are you happy with what the 112B offers? Any insight would be much appreciated.

    Regards.
