It's taken a bit of time, but the videos are finally edited and available. We've created a public YouTube channel for COG and have added the videos there.
We've created a playlist for the 2014 Fly-In:

Re: Why we must turn of electronics
Re: Why we must turn of electronics
If you read the asrs database there are examples of consumer electronics (one was even a discman) interfering with some aircraft systems- including causing fuel level sending units to report false levels (!).
As far as...
Re: Garmin VIRB Elite camera
It's absolutely the AFP support in FreeNAS. There is the ability to support NFS but it doesn't do the auto mount/dismount like AFP. I'm using straight Ubuntu and I do get occasional backup failures but it's relatively rare. You can use something like crashplan on...
Re: Garmin VIRB Elite camera
Just backup-backup-backup.
My personal routine is this- I have a home server (holds all my movies, music, etc.) that also acts as a time machine destination. As long as my computer is home and on it backs up hourly. I also have crashplan installed with the cloud...
Re: Garmin VIRB Elite camera
It's a false sense of security. SSD drives have a limited number of write cycles before they wear out (or their cells to be more specific) which causes the reallocation. Most SSDs are underprovisioned to set aside addition cells (a 200GB drive might actually be...
Re: Garmin VIRB Elite camera
One word of caution on the solid state drives- they are fast and rugged BUT they give no warning before failure, and failure is usually catastrophic with to ability to recover data. So always back up!
Re: Gear Checkvalve

Any of the FI's that work in that area will be familiar with the Hudson River Corridor and the procedures. You'll either have to go to long island or NJ to find an airport you can rent at. KCDW in NJ might be the closest from manhattan. One of KISP friends can chime...
Re: Flush mounted tail beacon
I was pretty sure part of the stc was retiring the rear strobe to be connected to the beacon, that way it was always on whenever the beacon was.
Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports
3 in the Green in Selinsgrove, PA (they used to be at KZER). I've seen some of their work before and was really impressed with it.
Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports
It's been a month since I dropped 38J off at the paint shop..I'm counting the days until it is ready to be picked up..
Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports
Yes, their population generally follows the boom/bust cycle of the lemmings' population. Apparently the 'boom' just finished and now is in rapid decline leaving many hungry snowy owls to head south for food. As the owl population declines, the lemming...
Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports
Great pics! My wife works for Audubon and there's been a ton of sightings pretty far south. Apparently it has to do with a decrease in their food supply (lemmings).
