  • Can anyone tell me how many Labor Hours to replace 112A Windscreen and if was the original 0.187” or thicker 0.250” thickness?
Does anyone out there have any 1st hand knowledge on N1163J S/N 163 history? It’s a straight 112 model. I know it’s been sitting a lot. Have a list of current discrepancies of which really my most concern is availability of a new windscreen and the Vertical stab rib 44222-3 cracked and requires compliance of SB-112-56.
Don’t know why but It had LH wing replaced 12-7-89 by Commander Aircraft Company along with some LE skin and LE ribs replaced on RH wing along with a cabin skin. Has had sound proofing kit installed, metal doors. Bulkhead at station 230.5 replaced with new 43205-1 and COMPLIED WITH AD 85-03-04R2 (FRONT SEAT & SHOULDER HARNESS MODIFICATION)
COMPLIED WITH AD 87-14-03 (FORWARD WING SPAR MODIFICATION ON BOTH WINAS)
COMPLIED WITH AD 88-05-06 (VERTICAL FIN ATTACHMENT FITTING)

    112 vs 112B

The B's are rare and exotic birds. I think there are only around 20 of them left. They have a stronger, and longer wing, better nose gear doors. better brakes, supplemental main gear doors, and 100lbs more useful load. They're basically a 112TCA, without the POS engine. Once they're turbonormalized, you end up with what a 112TCA should have been. The downside is they're heavy, and the longer wing makes them about 5 knots slower. If you spend a lot of time flying at high altitudes the longer wing, makes them more stable up high. If you live in Colorado a 112HS would be the bomb! If you fly mostly between 6 and 16K they're perfect, but only if turbonormalized.

The 112's are lighter, and faster, but have a lower useful load. All the extras that the 112B comes with can be added - at a cost. They're fine at high altitude. If you fly mostly between 3 and 12k they're great.

Thanks for info appreciate your time and response helping me more determine what want/should want and expected costs. Whatever I’d get I’d for sure be adding your fairings and would really like your better carbon fiber cowling and after built sometime and figured what my real flying profile with it would be do your Turbo Normalized STC (which as you mentioned before would also allow time to track down all the items needed for it possibly saving a little)
You said the 112B had few better items doors etc of those items if you went with a 112A would you recommend upgrading to some of those 112B parts to make it better and if so which in order you feel is most worth while and an estimated cost of each if you’d happen to have an approx guess.
So far have only had my Cherokee 140/160 to fly and 7GCAA so haven’t flown above 9k (to see Cherokee ceiling one hot high density Alt day approx 15,500-16,000 DA at 9500 MSL did get to experience its ceiling, went back to 9k and would hold that). I live SW corner of ND field is 2965 but summer have a lot of 7k+ DA days. My intended purpose for the Commander would be to have 2 doors and baggage door fly to my Warbird work around US that I would normally airline to. The trips were have to take jacks and Hyd mule of course would still have to drive. But after my 3rd trip to NC from ND driving and then month later ND to CA I’m getting sick of driving haha. Airline is pain as a lot of times I’m not finished with acft and have to cancel rebook etc so driving becomes better option but having something that would be comfortable and I could carry maybe an additional 50-100 Lbs than my 50 lb carry tool box would be ideal and judge time saver even if isn’t real fast acft. I like to do mods and make things better than from factory as long as makes sense and especially if makes sense and improves looks/function. I don’t have a lot of money I can spend all in one big lump but can usually have the money over a period of time doing improvements as go so I like finding the cheaper outright cost and fix up to what I want vs trying to find exactly what I want or think I want and usually can end up making nicer at slightly lesser out of pocket as I can do all the work myself.

Thanks again for time, I do really appreciate it. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year
