Today as I was doing my daily run around the end of the runways at Reagan national I had the pleasure to witness something that both amazes and saddens.
The runways were to my left and I heard a noise that did NOT belong on that airport. Just as I looked up 4 -FA/18 super hornets went over me at about 500' the 4th man went vertical up in the missing man just as he was above me. I spent 22 years in the USMC and have spent my share of time around those jets, but this was the first time I ever saw that from directly below.
For those of you that do not know, the Navy yard is across the river from Reagan.... Talk about your heart in your throat. Semper Fi.

What an honor to see that but at the same time very very sad.

#3 usually pulls straight up from a Finger Tip (flight of 4x) formation.

I attended General Robin Old`s Memorial at the USAF Academy in Colorado Spings,he had been their Commandant on his last assignment. The USAF had brought up 4x F4`s from Eglin I believe, they had allready been modified to Q's (drones) for the Missing Man Salute to the General what a sight. He had been a Great Warrior and a good friend. He came to our house at OSH one evening for dinner two years before he passed away.Wonderfull great stories his book was published a couple opf years ago, great read.I still remember when I asked him if he still enjoyed Scotch as I put a bottle on the table,he toook the top of threw it in the trash and the bottle was history.Certainly a memorable evening!

Indeed, it is an incredible sight. I had the awesome experience of seeing a missing man formation same type and configuration at my Uncle's funeral. He was a Naval aviator buried at Arlington Cemetary. He is the reason I and other members of my family fly.
