I am working all week next week in the Baton Rouge area. Then I have to be in Memphis by 5:00 PM on Sunday June 3. I had a weekend plan that blew up due to an unforeseen family event with my "host." So, I have to hang out somewhere in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas or Western Tenessee, the weekend after this. Looking for a good spot. I have plenty of work to do to keep me busy, but it is always fun to see something different or be a tourist. I like quirky, out-of-the-way spots ... no fear of grass or lousy runways.

Any suggestions? I seem to recall a cool place along a river in Arkansas maybe, that we actually considered for COG once. Maybe it was Missouri?

One thing, been to New Orleans many times. Love it, but not first choice, just because I would ideally like something new or different.

Byrne was just talking about heading out to Gaston's, that's in the vicinity you're talking about.

where and what is Gaston's? City? Restaurant? Fishing hole? Recreational Area? Brothel? Home for wayward pilots? Could this at least be a Saturday Fly-IN/Out?

Why Scott you're being a bit hard on yourself - your tail may sag a bit but no one would describe it as dragging!

Just got back from Gaston's. GREAT place to relax. If your into fishing (I'm not) it would be even better. Outstanding food, Great Strip, (fun to come in on and get out of if hills and trees don't bother you) and very aviation oriented. I'll try to attach a few pics. (note, strip is 3200 feet not 5000) There was a super cub fly-in there this week and while that is not my plane of choice, I have some friends that like going low & slow so it was a good weekend all around.

Re: Where to blow a weekend in LA, MS, AR or TN?

Byrne oops sorry I stated 5000ft - OK must have landed in a really short distance due to grass and so much remaining I thought it must have been 5000 ft.

Hey I agree I am not into fishing and had a great time as you say very aviation oriented place and the owner is fun to talk to.

OH I did have one mishap there - it was July so naturally I dived in into the water and jumped right out - the water is released from the bottom of a 100ft or more high dam and was chilly.

Great pix. Thanks. I have a reservation for Saturday night. Throwing in a spinning rod and some tackle. Great way to relax. Thanks for the suggestions.

I would imagine that put a "little" damper on your extra-curricular flying activities that night eh Sid?

I understand you regularly "over-estimate" the length of a lot of things..... at least that's what your "flying buddy's" (see comment from above) say.

Good one, Byrne ... the famous Seinfeld Episode "Shrinkage" comes to mind.
