Hi NE COG members please recommend which of the 7 GA airports I can use to go near Warwick RI for the June 16, weekend to attend a wedding reception at the Aldrich Mansion.
I'd probably come in Friday and stay till Sunday.

Any suggestions on neat aviation museums, airshows etc. are more than welcome.

Thanks in advance

Sid

PS reccos on places to stay nearby are also aprreciated.

I can't remember ever having flown in to any of those airports. So I'm afraid I can't be of much help, Sid.

RI is so tiny that landing at any airport in the state can't be that far away from Warwick. I've used Providence and had a good experience. Don't think I bot gas except perhaps to cover any ramp fee. Had friendly folks @ FBO when I was there a few years ago.

What about Block Island,RI? You can't get to Warwick too easily from there.

Providence is the closest to your wedding place, good class C airport. Buy gas at Westerly though. There is an airshow at Quonset that weekend, I might fly into it Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting. Give us a sign, maybe we can meet, like Frank suggested, Block Island is a good spot to land for a bite to eat on a weekend. MVY or ACK are good places to meet also. By June the place could be a zoo, but early mornings at the airport is not bad.

North Central (SFZ)would be my first choice and nice friendly GA AP and about 20 min to Warwick if its not rush hour, Quonset Point (OQU) is good to but 30+ min, and of course Providence is closest (PVD). Northstar is the FBO and very nice, about 10.00 landing fee if you don't buy fuel and waived with a 10 gallon+ purchase, not sure the fees if you have to park more than a day. ATC is pretty accommodating too more so than other Charlie AP.

As others have said if you have time fly and visit Block Island, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket which are some of the nicest Islands on the east coast, if your pressed for time Martha's Vineyard is my favorite.

Radu you sure know how to startle a guy its not MY wedding.
Providence has already favored me - I am married to a Comander!

Thanks for the advice everyone so I'll try PVD or SFZ and then try for the Quonset airshow Sunday hoping to run into any of our NE people there - then fly the islands and then head home.

Re: What airport should I use near Warwick, RI

Thanks for the advice going into SFZ and I'll be there Friday onwards - are there any Commanders at SFZ or PVD?

Sid, I am at KTAN, not too far. I was planning to go and visit Bill Hopkins Sunday morning at 44N if you want to come. I am thinking Frank is flying there too.

Thanks Radu, let me see what the family kids let me get away with so far family members have dumped their kids with me claiming I thought they were cute so go ahead keep them entertained for the evening while we have fun.

Its a nice chore of course and I am doing my best to influence them into General Aviation thought.

I'll PM you my cell please lets talk
