I flew to Sawyer today. The plan is sister to a Mayo(MN) hospital visit tomorrow. While here I took a guy for a 1 hour flight, he’s been on the 2 year waiting list. I even had a 15 kt tailwind Flying North.

Here’s my local flight with the guy I promised, just over an hour. I included a lot of sightseeing. D78A7E28-1435-4972-A3E6-AB9DC4002EDD.png

That's where I was born!! On the SAC base!

Nice coastal flight :D

As most know, an old SAC base becomes just a shell of its former self after decades with minimal upkeep. I did a little tour through the former base housing, low income & becoming dilapidated. Many base buildings are boarded up, decaying.

The runway is nice, shortened to 9000’ or so.

I spent 5 weeks at Sawyer this past winter, doing icing tests in an experimental helicopter behind the Army’s CH-47 HISS. Planning to have many more visits to Marquette’s local breweries this winter as we (hopefully) conclude testing, but no visits in my Commander planned. Sawyer may be outdated, but I really like Marquette, the area’s ice caves, and for sure the people. Oh, and the beer.

I just got back from another MI visit, this time I parked at 50D, Iron County. This was better for my pickup, plus more favorable with weather for getting out. The airport doesn’t get much upkeep, but it served the purpose.

Just a general visit planned, mostly Mom & brothers. One brother had tickets to a ‘Head East’ concert, yeah the real guys. They got another ticket so I went. It was at the ‘historic’ Calumet Theater, which is two blocks away from the famous ‘Italian Hall’ tragedy/fire back in 1913.

Now the band ‘Head East’ isn’t on the top of my list as far as choices go, kinda a 1 or 2 hit wonder for the most part. It was a family event, plus I’m not sure if I’ve ever been to the Calumet Theater. The last Time I was in Calumet may of been playing football many decades ago. It was good to go, something different.

In recent years I’ve gone to a few ‘tribute bands’, not the real thing, but often 80%+ there. My favorite was ‘Hollywood Nights’ a Bob Seger tribute band. I’ll try a few pictures.
