A thread for all of us who couldn't make it this year:cool:

Feel free to provide updates here!

My minute by minute is that i got my annual finally done today and the logbooks completed/signed.

First test flight is tomorrow. The downside is i am missing out on the fly-in.
The upside is the new exhaust sure looks nice :)

I was on my way, had to return. Timing issue. Cannot get it repaired until morning, so I will not make it this year. So there is an extra room at the HH Inn. Lonnie can have my beer. Sorry to miss you all.

If only the fly-on were just one week later...I think I would have made it.
Here's a picture of mine awaiting a few finishing touches which arrive by mail today or tomorrow...replacement piece for exhaust, Reiff Sump heaters, little things like connectors and clamps but here she is sporting among other things a new engine (same case and crank only) + accouterments , reworked engine mount, and Carl's MT composite three blade.

My airport is closed for 2 weeks as the runway is being redone, and I did not want my airplane sitting at another airport. Next year our airport will get all new asphalt for the ramps and taxiway and if the construction date is the same as this year and the COG is the same date I will not be able to go next year either unless I plan additional trips and tour part of America. Which is something I am going to think about depending on next year construction schedule for my airport and the schedule of the COG flyin next year.

I really wanted to go and as usual I will ask again for next year pick a place close to the middle of USA. I suspect my request will not get much attention but I think more would go as opposed to having one in the middle and the next year on the East coast as happened last year.

All of my new Whelen LED lights are in - Wingtips, tail and the flashing beacon on top. The rudder was not too hard to take off.
All of the new lights are super bright and the red beacon will be seen for sure as opposed to the old one. I now have all lights interior and exterior LED except the Cargo light which will be a LED bulb. I have no idea how many amps I have reduced but I think it is a bunch.

In addition since the airport is closed had the new engine area inspected by my mechanic - I have 75 hours on it now. All hours since January

Forgot to add to the above post - since i couldn't fly during the airport closure I am also having a lot of other little stuff done and some painting also.

Last night we had our COG movie night. Flyboys, popcorn, and ample adult beverages were enjoyed by all!

Today we have Electroaire, Garmin, Jim Richards from Aerodyme, and Carl Lee from RCM Normalizing - plus lots of ramp time, of course.

And this evening is the COG reception banquet and dance in the Pacific Showroom. Pictures will follow!

Friday recap!

Weather continues to be perfect here in Frederickburg. For the afternoon we had great seminars. First up was Darrell Pool from Smooth Power/Electroair who went over their electronic ignition systems in detail. While systems for our IO360s and 114Bs/TC/115s with independent mags are shipping now, some really interesting news is that they have a working system for our IO540s with the dual mag setup. While the product is basically finished, paperwork is with the Chicago ACO and Darrell described ETA as realistically a year or so. He also showed a very nice switch/pushbutton setup to replace the crummy key start in our aircraft.

Brad Brensing from Garmin was up next and instead of the usual ADS-B pitch, the presentation was focused on upgrades which included the new GPS175, GNC 355, GNX 375, and the G3X. Very interesting.

Next up was Aerodyme's Jim Richards with great presentation of current safety technical issues for the fleet. A great checklist that every owner should take a look at - I'll try to get Jim to post a copy here. He also showed us a new bellcrank that he's produced, seat rails, and a very nice kit for reinforce and replace the entire rear bulkhead in our Commanders.

Carl Lee finished the afternoon sessions reviewing current and future products and passed around both his enclosed tail beacon as well as a very cool carbon fiber wingtip prototype.

All the exhibitors will be around this morning for one-on-one consultations.

Dinner was held in the Pacific Show Room which is a facility set up in a 1940's South Pacific theme. Drinks and a buffet dinner were followed up by music from the excellent 'Country Cactus' band. The dancing went on long into the night and yes, there was even some line dancing!

An awesome day.

awesome , Glenn.
Just like Paul Bertorelli without the sarcasm :)

Saturday recap!

Everyone had a nice leisurely morning with breakfast and some ramp time. Electroair and Garmin were available through lunchtime for one-on-one technical discussions. Unlike the mobs at Sun & Fun or Oshkosh, it's really nice to have 20-30 minutes of uninterrupted time to talk in depth with vendors like this. I think we'll have several Electroair installs to get reports from in the near future.

Ramp judging started at 9:00am with our group of judges led by Bill Hopkins.

10am featured a seminar called Stump the Chumps. Basically a Q&A free-for-all with some of the best minds in the COG. Lot's of fun but really did answer a ton of questions, too. At the same time Carl Lee was doing ramp time with Hot Shot owners going over operation and maintenance questions.

Lunch was a COG host BBQ and then at 1:30, everyone was back for a Spinner to Stinger workshop on airframe maintenance by Jim Richards. Jim had a 'top 10' list of common maintenance issues and then proceeded to detail his tips and tricks for checking and dealing with each. Tons of good discussion on topics including nosewheel steering, rigging, and proper strut maintenance.

Cocktails and the dinner reception began at 6:00pm and continued late in the night.

Perfect weather for much of the country for departures this morning.

Thank you folks for the fine plaque i recently received.

The leather finish matches my color scheme taste for my man cave perfectly :)

Hello guys, hope everybody is well and healthy. I am looking for someone from the last fly-inn in T82, by any chance someone has the final roster that Judy distributed for the activity.

Thanks and hope to see you soon...!
