No issues tonight, and in very poor reception area in N Carolina Mountains. In 3500 ft Sapphire Valley with 4000 ft+ & 5-6000 ft peaks all around. So someone has been doing a Superb Job for us-Radu-? Thanks. Nice to stay in touch when exploring unfamiliar mountains. We found some incredible waterfalls today Don't know if I'd want to fly over this terrain at this point in life. Way more rugged& steeper rises& drops than West Virginia Hollows, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York Appalachians.

Don't know why upload of a very clear screen shot from Ifly GPS won't open clearly. But Google maps of area will show our location.

Camellia and I went for walk today around this mountainous resort. Extremely windy with wind shear gusts over 30 -especially on the ridge tops. Could not even fathom a crosswind landing IF there was a runway here AND there are many higher peaks all around us.
Warming up after the Noreaster, but still needed 3 layers, my flight jacket, my Commander pin hat (with homemade shoestring tie for under my chin and driving gloves. Bahamas Ts & Shorts history.

Jason, remember you said you loved Savannah. We did a few hours at the Riverwalk & on the free ferry. The new Hyatt Regency Lobby and Coffee bar was a nice 'Mellow Out'. Visted the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum before we headed up to Augusta. Superb documentation, Displays, very powerful and very well done. The Memorial Gardens & Chapel truly promote Contemflection.

Heading further NE tomorrow, plan is to make it to Roanoke. Ground reconisance for Asheville Airport Topography as may be flying down this summer.

Hope to reunite with N112HT Sunday or Monday!!!

Yeah, that museum is very cool. You should have hit Vinnie Van Go Go's Pizza :D

I have not done much mountain flying...except across the Rockies and 1 time...but I think the general consensus is to be as high above peaks as possible when crossing and in order to avoid ridge and peak shear.

The guy I flew with over the Rockies said something to me that always stuck... He said think of wind like water and then imagine what happens to water hitting ridges and peaks and XXX.

I have spent a great deal of time in water being an athlete as well as adventurist and that really resonated. I envision wind very differently now i.e. I can "see" it in my mind's eye unlike before.
