My Father in law and I recently purchased N693TC and are starting to get some hours built up. We have been flying a turbo charged Dakota for the last 12 years. Wow what a plane!!! I can see why you all love your planes the way you do. Looking forward to our Florida trips from Michigan in comfort instead of crammed in the piper!! Love the site and was a huge asset during pre buy. Thanks Much!!

Re: New home for N693TC

Matt,
Welcome aboard
Nice plane
We have several new owners in Michigan and need another Michigan fly in after Oshkosh.
Are you going to Oshkosh?

Re: New home for N693TC

Hey Matt.

I've got a brother up there in Kingsford. Always thought KIMT had quite a large runway for such a remote airport.

Looking forward to flying in... if I ever finish and get my PPL.

Re: New home for N693TC

Not going to make it to Oshkosh this year but interested in a MI fly in.

Re: New home for N693TC

Welcome Matt. Hope we'll see you at our Dayton fly-in this September.

Welcome,

You will lover her. make sure you a good gem like an ei50 or g4.
I have had my tc for over 350 hours now and went through a lot of "lessons" but now she is superduper!

You can google her under N623TC.

Somewhere on this forum I also posted my entire enginemanagement procedures!

Re: New home for N693TC

Looks like there will be big deals at Oshkosh this year.
JPI is showing $500-600 rebates on monitors by some of the vendors.

Re: New home for N693TC

The factory scanner did not work on pre buy so we upgraded to the edm 930. Not looking to go fast 27'' 2200 rpm true a/s numbers and fuel flow are on book which really surprised me using 1550 tit. At 10k heads 375 except #5/6 395. Tried cruise climb 29'' 2400 climb was pretty weak. Been using 34'' 2500 105 ias. good climb cylinders 350-360 degrees on 28-29 gph.

Re: New home for N693TC

I just finished a JPI 930 install myself.

Climb performance in the winter will be a lot better but in the hot/humid summer, yeah, it just doesn't wanna get up. I can climb at 29/2300 in the winter months ok (700+ fpm initially from +500 above sea level) but am finding in the summer months that I need to go up to 31" to keep 100 knots and 500 fpm.

In addition to lesser wings, compared to our old Dakotas, the Commander props are a bit smaller with less 'bite' as well, so it just isn't gonna climb like the good ole trusty Piper did.

If you dont have the flap gap seals on the 114TC/ 115 try adding those. They helped my climb. I have TKS which hurts me, but I did notice about an extra 125 FPM all the way up with the seals.

Re: New home for N693TC

Never really had climb problems .. Also not when heavy.

I had the flapgapseals and Aerodymes speed kit installed and the aircraft rerigged all at the same time. So cannot say what contributed to what .. But I can do the booknumbers .. Except for fuel flow. Considering I also have TKS which gives you a speedpenalty I am very happy. The only thing which really would help is a 300hp turbocharged engine .. Preferably running on jetfuel.

As for climb ..

Take of is full 39/2575
Then I quickly reduce to 35/25 which will take me anywhere
For a normal cruise climb I use 30-31/24 which should be sufficient.

I have found that one as tempted to raise the nose to get a better climb performance while it works a lot better to drop the nose.speeds will increase resulting in more lift and a better climb and better cooling.

Cruise climb from say 10000 ft to 13000 feet is therefor typically 30/24 with roughly 110-120kts climbing over 500fpm. Nice and easy.
