We just brought another Commander back to Michigan.
Yesterday we flew from Detroit to Baltimore on Spirit Airlines. My first flight on Spirit, $75 total air fare. Nice Airbus, the seats did not adjust but the legroom with better than my last flights on United or American. The flight was good.
The plane was a ’78 114 at Hartford County Airport 0W3, Churchville. The plane had a prebuy and the new owner had inspected it on an earlier trip. It was bitter cool so we just loaded the plane. I found a piece of “plastic cardboard” that we cut to fit over the oil cooler. They fueled the plane and used a portable preheater to warm the engine.
The head winds were 20-30kts and we started the flight at 4,500’ and then climbed to 8,500’. The oil temps stayed in the low 180s. The cabin got to temps immediately. The heater control was barely open and we found to control the temperatures from the pilots side to the passenger’s side we had to close the vent by the passenger’s seat to almost closed because it was too hot.
We cruised at 151-152 kts TAS and about 10.5 gals/hr.
It was a great flight and the new owner is very happy.
I will let the new owner introduce himself and describe the great new plane.
