Aircraft Type
112 Hot Shot

OK, so it's groundspeed, but what the heck. Seen today at 9500 feet on the way back home to Florida...note the GS at the top of the airspeed tape on the left. Enterprise Alabama to Merritt Island Florida (325nm) in 1:53! I would have caught the 65 knot ride at 15,000 but my oxygen tank was empty. 12 gph too!

I like this little Hot Shot thing...

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Here's my Rockies crossing last August. You still have me beat, but I was at 13,000, not 17...does that count??

Sure counts in my book, Eric. Looks like we're the only ones in the 200+ KPH club, so far

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Hey Eric, what did you put in that thing? Last time I saw 29J she had a Century 1000 HSI and a Garmin 430. Is that a new G500?

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Yup. Had to swap out the 430 for a 430W too, since that's the only one that talks to the 500.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

sorry

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

You don't need a big engine to go at 200kts, I have the slowest model in the fleet, 112B and although I was a bit occupied at the time with flying and all to take a photo, I took this picture of the Trip Stats later on. I was caught in a mountain wave in the Pyrenees and had just been thrown over the top at 11,500'.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

I didn't take a picture, but I had 220 kts GS one trip back from MI.

I had 420 kts GS in the other one coming back from FL in Oct. Not enough to join the 500 mph club yet.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

I finally have the opportunity to join the GS club. This is on my flight from Addison, TX to Athens, GA as my fuel stop before turning north to Warrenton. Not bad at 15,500!

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Steve,

You not only joined the club, but it looks like you hold the record, so far.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Yea, it was a pretty good tail wind. It actually hit 230 for a minute or two, but couldn't get my camera out in time. Gotta love the TAS too! Can't wait for my Super Stream mod to get even more.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

That's a handsome CNX80 you have there, Steve. ;-) Garmin AT will send you a new decal/button for that knob if you call them. (been there... done that) Congrats on your achievement... pretty big deal in our speed demons.

Hey Eric,
Good to see you are enjoying the Commander HS. One day you have to give me the skinny what is all in that beautiful panel.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Bill,
I didn't think about Garmin AT. Thanks! I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Here is the opposite end of the spectrum from the slowest Commander in the fleet....:p:p:p

Flying to Houston on Tuesday, headwinds at all altitudes, 64 knots headwind at 8,000 forecast. Bumpy clouds below, tried for a while at 4,000, in the clouds, bouncing, unhappy passengers. Went up to 6,000, smoother but had this....

08:26PM 29.81 -90.46 251° West 87 100 5,900 Houston Center
08:27PM 29.80 -90.49 244° Southwest 93 107 5,900 Houston Center
08:28PM 29.79 -90.52 248° West 98 113 5,900 Houston Center
08:29PM 29.78 -90.55 240° Southwest 98 113 5,900 Houston Center
08:30PM 29.76 -90.57 243° Southwest 99 114 5,900 Houston Center

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Hey, you're still in triple digits!! You should feel (somewhat) fortunate. Sadly, 80 - 90 isn't that unusual during certain seasons. Time to land, find a room, grab a brewskie and a good book or find a ballgame and wait for the low to push off further east. ;-)

Re: My Almost-200 knot Commander

Bill the yellow numbers were the ground speed in knots :(
I was trying to make them stand out but failed.
