I spent three years planning the 2009 Alaska trip, My nephews Ben and Tom gained over two stone each during the planning phase. I must have done a thousand W&B calculations. I walked around Walmart with a fish scale buying clothes. It was not a holiday, it was an adventure.

Life is now getting boring, Ok, I am building a hangar, a runway and a lot of other $hit.

I am now ready for a new challenge. Lets put some excitement into COG..

The last time I went through the Panama Canal I was washing dishes on a Norwegian freighter. (1966) I am ready for a new adventure.

A COG trip to Panama would take a lot of planning, and a leader as Dale was, I do believe that within this group we have the right people to make a trip like this possible.

We are looking at , Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

If Gonzao Paez can fly all the way to Jekyll Island I know that I can fly at least to Costa Rica.

Any thoughts or interest.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Peaked my interest!!..... Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk

You could go on that Galapagos island tour…only $16K + another $3K for the airplane registration!
look for it on some of the aviation websites.

I lived in Panama for a year... would love to visit.

Heck yeah ... Count me in!

I would have some interest

There is a youtuber that posted a trip from Kansas (I think) to Sao Paulo Brazil on C172. That sparked my interest. I actually reached out to him and got some great tips.

I have family in Rio de Janeiro, and I have the trip planned. I can't do it yet, but I am getting (mostly lack of time from work). That will for sure be once a lifetime adventure.

My goal is to rather than trying to make great timing by flying fast, I am going to enjoy some of the stops, like Saint Martin... planning on staying a day there. I am thinking about getting as close as possible to the fence so the tourists can enjoy my prop blast hahaha.

Seeing the Caribbean islands, then first glimpse of the South American continent, heading to Manaus (clear immigration and customs) and seeing some of the Amazon and the countryside and finally arriving in Rio just in time for some great dine with local dishes, deep sea diving with my cousins, partying in town... staying a week then flying back.

I want to take at least 3 weeks off from work to be able to enjoy it.

If there was a ferry tank for the 112, it would be cool... maybe remove the rear seats, but I can do the trip without it with no problems.

Someday. :D

When I look back at the 2009 Commader trip to Alaska , what made it so possible was our host/leader/Vendor. Dale. Only the folks that went on the adventure would understand. what I am talking about. He got well paid for his services, But I feel that we almost got our moneys worth.

As a group we need a host/leader that is familiar with the places we are going. And if they make a few bucks doing it, so what.

I am looking for folks on the Alaska trip to comment.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Your AK trip sure was a ‘lifetime event’, great fun with others. I did the AL-Can Hwy back in 92, as a single-ship though.

The thought of a multi-country trip to Central America seems somewhat daunting. At the moment it does ‘appear’ Covid is waning somewhat, though hard to tell the end. Besides being ‘a barrel of fun’, seems like it would also require a ‘barrel of money’.

Not to be a downer, I do like big plans. Is a group trip to the Bahamas to mundane? Once there, if necessary one could return solo, not that far. Those that go seem to like it. Since a few go, one so versed could come to give secrets to the best stops.

Just an idea.

We'd be interested, as well. Not a commander owner yet, but working on it :D

we did Bahamas 2003/ Stella Maris. ://www.stellamarisresort.com/
not sure if this is update to date, but here'some notes fm then:

a few did KFPR the night before and dinner that evening.

Lunch at Fort Pierce before departing next day.

If you do not have over the water gear you may rent it/
The minimum is a life vest for each passenger. You may ask them for what they have to rent or buy you own from http://www.Sportys.com.
They are located next to Customs and we will arrive back to there so it may returned easily...

Joel goes often, so we know we'll get the latest scoop.

If you do Bahamas, we're FOR SURE in. That's a quick hop for us from PR. I've landed at Stella Maris a half dozen times in my Cheetah. Always an exciting landing due to wind.

I have done the trip 15 times. Best time to go is early May - rates drop because it is after the winter season. May is before storm season and weather in the US is generally good. Added bonus is that Florida is not very humid in the spring.
I would be willing to give any guidance that I can.

I’ve done this one a couple times now….last year.

The stella maris resort wasn’t open still last time I went down but there are other cool options on Long Island. Tiny’s Hurricane Hole is where we stayed. They have 3 or 4 studio/stick built places right on the beach with a cool outdoor area ….and it puts you right in the middle of the island instead of so far up north at stella that it takes a LONG time to get down to a lot of the places to eat/shop/dean’s blue hole, etc …

We just flew into Stella-Maris for Customs, then Hopped down to Dead Man’s to land/park.

But I’d definitely be in for that trip as well (I AM always up for a Commander Bahamas Trip.)

I also have 3+ weeks of timeshares at Atlantis if anyone wanted to go that route instead, I could make the “cost” of staying super super reasonable by using my time share points for at least 3, 1 Bedroom Condos …

Joel,

I am based out of Saint Louis (KSUS) so I am hoping to go to the Bahamas this year. I got the custom's sticker for my airplane last year and I have to renew it for this year, but do you have some sort of checklist from start to end that we can reference? A trip check list?

I was thinking like a step by step reference guide for us new time pilots (250+ hours) that want to start exploring more locations other than the local 100 dollar hamburger.

Even references like beaches or hotels would be appreciated it

thanks

Marcos.
