I had to attend a wedding in Indianapolis last weekend. Fired up the trusty Commander, loaded it with my wife and daughter and departed for KEYE (Eagle Creek) just north of big Indy. It is a great little airport beside a lake with a marina and restaurant across the street. FBO personnel were friendly and helpful and gas was not obnoxiously expensive. Of course Kim refused to go nonstop so we made a pit stop in TN at 0A3. Was able to buy gas there at $4.68/gal; which seems cheap nowadays though that is hard to believe! Enjoyed the stop but they had no truck and FBO building and fuel pumps were not in walking distance making in necessary to taxi between them.
It was my first time in downtown Indianapolis and I was very impressed. We stayed in the Crown Plaza in the old Union Station. If you go, ask for one of the train car rooms. There was plenty to do see within walking distance once in town. On the way home we used Athens, GA for the pit stop. They have crew cars and we made it down town for lunch before returning my daughter to Gainesville and flying home.
All in all it was a great trip. I was able to cover the 1300nm round trip both cheaper and faster than the airlines. I do wish we could get the price of fuel somewhere back to a reasonable range
