Indy trip

I had to attend a wedding in Indianapolis last weekend. Fired up the trusty Commander, loaded it with my wife and daughter and departed for KEYE (Eagle Creek) just north of big Indy. It is a great little airport beside a lake with a marina and restaurant across the street. FBO personnel were friendly and helpful and gas was not obnoxiously expensive. Of course Kim refused to go nonstop so we made a pit stop in TN at 0A3. Was able to buy gas there at $4.68/gal; which seems cheap nowadays though that is hard to believe! Enjoyed the stop but they had no truck and FBO building and fuel pumps were not in walking distance making in necessary to taxi between them.

It was my first time in downtown Indianapolis and I was very impressed. We stayed in the Crown Plaza in the old Union Station. If you go, ask for one of the train car rooms. There was plenty to do see within walking distance once in town. On the way home we used Athens, GA for the pit stop. They have crew cars and we made it down town for lunch before returning my daughter to Gainesville and flying home.

All in all it was a great trip. I was able to cover the 1300nm round trip both cheaper and faster than the airlines. I do wish we could get the price of fuel somewhere back to a reasonable range

Re: Indy trip

I grew up 45 miles from Indy, and its evolution from basically a crappy city to an unsung jewell is remarkable. They are the amateur sports capital of America (NCAA, AAU, etc. etc. etc.) and tremendous health sciences center, among other good stuff. Used to be a drag going there ... now we love it. If you have small ones or grandkids, the Children's museum is fantastic. GA is great all around ... Eagle Cree to the NW, Terry (now called Indy Exec) straight north, Indy Metro NE, Mount Comfort straight West ... and a couple of others I don't frequent. Going there next week. Always a nice visit.

Going North to South (or the other way) try to Stop at Middlesboro KY 1A6 - one of the prettiest airports and settings in America -- great people, facility, cheap gas and a gas grill anyone can use anytime. Glacier Girl was rebuilt there.

Hi Doug,

I liked the Gator feasting on Georgia Bulldog. Nice touch. Not long now for the season to start and I can see Tebow run wild again.

Re: Indy trip

Bill,

Should be a great season this year. Tebow says he won't run as much. Maybe they have found a running back. But that Florida Georgia game should be great!

Re: Indy trip

Hi Doug,

Planning a trip to Amelia Island in Sept. sometime, about four aircraft from the Fla. Areo club. Wondering if you could advise on some of the better restuarants there. The ladies are checking the web for places to stay. If you could email me at COMMANDERBO@COMCAST.NET I'd appreciate any advise.

If the Gators can't do it then I hope Miami will start it's come back.
