Heading for Salem Oregon

Heading for Salem again. Had 2 foiled attempts last year. 1. Failed radio returned to get replaced. 2. Bad shimmy dampener. Temp fixed, then weather got in the way.

Anyway, made quite a bit of improvements since then and a few more cross countries on her. I will be leaving early Saturday morning if weather holds out and head for Rawlins, or Rock Springs WY for an overnight. Anyway, excited about heading out there again. Maybe see a few along the way.

Michael,

If you need anything - KFTG isn't too far away and I will be happy to help.

Michael,

Stop by Camas if youre in the area. If youre going to be in the area for a while let me know. Theres some great summer time places to go flying.

Any good places to stay nearby? Thinking about shortening my first leg of the trip.

Great,

Maybe head to Salem and eat at the restaurant at the airport. I'll buy. :)

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Salem (SLE) has some pretty good food.

Michael,

There are a couple of options.
KFTG:
1) I'd pick you up and bring you into Denver-ish (about 20 minutes).
2) The terminal folks have shuttle to Denver International (about 7 miles away) there is a new hotel there.

KAPA:
1) Hotel across the ramp and across the street - Ramada Inn and they would probably drive you over or pick you up.

Please let me know if I can help with anything.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Dean, will let you know what will happen before I leave. Thanks....

Tim, Frank, let's try and meet at some point. Should be fun. :)

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Michael,
As mentioned in PM, if your journey takes further North than originally planned, let me know (either trip). I'd love to see and experience a commander.

Salem would be good for me - Tim is about the same distance

I will be going to Grand Island, NE July 28 (or 29) - through July 31 - are you near by-ish?

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Michael, how long will you be in Salem?

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Arrive Sunday the 12th and depart Friday 24th or Saturday 25th. 2 weeks.

My plane is down in SoCal getting painted. Hope to get it back by the 20th. Maybe head over to Salem before the 24th. It's still unclear with the paint shop when it actually will be done, but hoping.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Mine is getting an avionics upgrade within the next 2 weeks - hopefully we can all meet up before that.

Dean,
Yeah, about 100 miles or so from there. Unfortunately, I won't be...wife and I are going to Mexico on the 27th until the August 1.

Thank you for letting me know. If that trip happens again for you, let me know.

Slowly upgrading to newer older stuff. :) The picture shows a new Transponder, but I don't have it yet. Still the King Mode C, but everything else is there now. GARMIN 340 audio, 400W, 255 Com/NAV, 225 Com, and 106A CDI. With the wheeling/dealing, selling the old stuff I have less the 10K in it installed.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Looks great to me. I am going all Garmin. In the process I am getting rid of a lot of stuff and with a lot less weight. Can't wait!.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Well took off today for Salem. After about 4 1/2 hrs stopped in Smith Center KS to refuel and take about an hour break. Then went on to Rawlins WY. To stay the night. Winds in the after noon here are pretty strong. Had 25kt winds gusting to 28kts when on final. Lucky me they were right down the runway. Another odd thing, had a tailwind the entire trip... 125kts true with 135-140kts ground speed.
