UK Commander owners-

I'm trying to get a formation training day together and my instructors (RAF trained) keep telling me that the whole thing would be a lot easier if it was being done with 2 Commanders in the early stages. Do any of the UK Commander owners want to do some formation training with me. This would be formal training, ground briefings, flying and debrief with two highly experienced formation flyers. Although I fly in formation now and again from a distance, I wouldn't try to get real close without this sort of training. Anyone interested in doing something different with their Commander, reply here or send me a PM.

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

I'd love to do it.

Pretty far away for me though :)

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

Haha.. I was going to say the same. Maybe we can do one here?!

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

So time has passed an no takers from the Commander community, however I have been practicing with a friend who has a Nanchang CJ6 and is an experienced formation flyer and finally after a bit ground work and some practice flights, I have finally sorted out the closer formation thing. My comfort zone is down to about 2 wingspans, but I am not letting the confidence overtake ability. Lots more practice to come before getting any closer. Still running out a bit in a tight turn but doing OK in a straight line.

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

That looks like great fun! Nice pics!

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

If anyone is interested in formation training near FL, let me know. I'm a little busy until mid-January or so, but I think it'd be a lot of fun. I'm lucky enough to instruct in the P-51 Mustang, I have a 4-ship FAST card, and learned in the USAF, and I really enjoy instructing. Maybe we could do a weekend intro somewhere.

Formation is something you really need instruction on and it should be a very disciplined undertaking.

I work for beer, and sometimes gas money....

Eric,

What is the cost to do a flight in the P-51 at Stallion 51. I think it would be the chance of a lifetime. I'm sure there is a Commander discount.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

I'd like to take the course in the commander, if one is Set up. Can you issue a FAST card on completion?

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

Reic, I am interested in both the formation training and the P-51. Both my Dad and Step-Dad flew P-51's in the Pacific, and I'd like to share the experience. scott@truen.com

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

I am also very interested in formation training. I think 3 or more Commanders flying in formation would be and look awesome! Keep me posted on this. Thanks!

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

I'm in too!
What kind of beer do you like? :p

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

Eric Im in also.

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

I dunno, Lonnie ... you'd have to pull 'er back to 17" !

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

Ice man (Dan Moody) you can be my wing man any time.

Re: Formation Training - Interested?

Wow! Didn't expect the resonse...first things first: there's two kinds of beer, Ian--beer you got, and beer you ain't got.
Second, an hour in the Mustang is right around $3000. (I know, but I don't set the price! I just fly it...!) Their web site is stallion51.com.
Third: I will have to ask if they would let me issue FAST cards for the Commander. They can be funny about that sort of thing.
Let me think on this and figure out a fun way to do it and I'll start a formation thread.
