I struggle with icing questions more than anything else. Having a couple of instances where you see ice begin to form on your wings as you are descending through IMC on an approach on final knowing that going missed is not in the cards due to ice build up stays with you forever (going on 10+ years).
The two times I got into ice there was a clear icing forecast and I was not expecting problems. I have often thought that a FIKI approved airplane would be a really nice thing to have. Instead of that, now at a ripe old age of 60 I tend to stay on the ground if I see low 40's temperatures at any altitude I am planning to fly at with IMC.
Flying in NE Texas has some interesting wintertime problems - it is usually above freezing during any given daylight hour, but well below freezing at the altitudes that we generally fly at in our airplanes (5-10,000' MSL).
