We don't get to brag too often about speed, so when I caught a great tail wind last Friday I had to post.

Northern Wisconsin to southeast Michigan at 15,000 ft. Over 200 kts most of the way with superlative speed of 223 kts over the ground. At ten gallons per hour, too.:D

I think this is a personal best for my Commander.

Re: Feel-good flight

:) Now that is something to talk about!!!

Re: Feel-good flight

wow Mark what type of Commander do you have?

Had reached mid 180's over the ground in my plain vanilla 112 yesterday, eastbound from KBAF to KTAN at 9500, smooth like silk, I must have caught the jet stream. 16 kts gusting to 25 down low and choppy made for an interesting approach and landing, love it when you get whacked into a 60 degrees bank out of nowhere on very short final, knocking the headset out of my skull, it just helps building character. I think I have a picture on my BB of the 430 riding back to Taunton, I'll post it.

Re: Feel-good flight

Well done Mark! That is a top story in a "Pimp My Ride" final. We have the greatest planes doing great things with great people.

Kindest personal regards,

Pete

Hi Sid,

It's a plain-vanilla 1976 114. Recent major overhaul, though and I think the MY prop really helps the climb.

All credit to the tailwind, though. I was only truing out at 139 ktas. Still, not bad on 10 GPH.

Hey Radu

Sorry about that 60 degree bank on short final was probably from my wake turbulence if it was Sunday afternoon as we came in to KBAF in the afternoon in the Hawker and went to GulfStream for a repair/adjustment on a new Garrett engine and then back to KBED.

Re: Feel-good flight

Very Nice.

182 Knots was my best GS on a flight to NY a few months back. Again, thanks to the tail wind

Re: Feel-good flight

This was a a good day. 11/11/09 over Cleveland on my way to Lancaster PA (KLNS). (Veterans Day and the 8th anniversary of my kidney transplant.) Cleveland center asked if I was enjoyin' the tailwind. Yeah ... pretty much, I guess. You can clearly see Cleveland on the moving map and scroll down on pic 3 of the #2 GPS to see ... 235 nm to go: 1:03 ETE. Nice.

Forgot to mention ... 224 knots ground speed. See last pic. I did get past 230 once headed to Charlotte but I did not have a camera to document it. As we all know, most of what is claimed on aviation web boards is total BS (except for mine) ... so good to have pictures!

Re: Feel-good flight

Scott: Thanks for sharing those pics of the 'hi tech glass'. Makes me feel like I was there!
