Drone solution?

Re: Drone solution?

Great idea and hope it passes quickly, but the cat is out of the bag. What they gonna do for all that are out there already? If the usual process is followed then there will be thousands more sold before they can implement it.
There is going to be an incident!

Re: Drone solution?

Not if it will happen, but when.
But stiff penaltiesfor all those who operate one over "X" size or "y" weight (however that gets defined") without geofencing, would rein it in pretty quick, methinks.

Re: Drone solution?

Size wise,
I hit a sparrow one night and it sounded like a sledgehammer hitting the plane. Messy but luckily no damage. I don't want any of those little buggers near my plane or have to worry about them near an airport.

Re: Drone solution?

Here I was thinking 50 caliber wing mounted guns was a good option.

Re: Drone solution?

I've thought about this type of solution and I like that it can be straightforward for people to understand - no drones within 2 miles of an airport and 250' max elsewhere. And I think you're correct Scott. A few highly publicized stiff penalties for violations should take care of self enforcement.

I'd skip geofencing - a typical government idea that will raises prices, require industry regulation, and then people will just figure out how to bypass it anyway.

Re: Drone solution?

A guy on the outskirts of town used his shotgun to shoot a drone down over his house while his daughters were sunbathing. The police arrested him.

Re: Drone solution?

I read about that one Jim. Sounds like when the drone fell to the ground it wasn't on his property...oops

Re: Drone solution?

I like it but it looks expensive. I think I will stay with Dave's 50 cal. wing mount

Re: Drone solution?

I can just imagine how many of those the Pentagon will be ordering...another reason why I'm glad I bought Boeing stock.

Re: Drone solution?

I have a neighbor who uses a CO2 pellet rifle on red squirrels that plague us. (Being the kind soul I am, I trap them and take them behind the airport where there are some abandoned old WWII buildings and let them go.) But I did see a drone pass over our yard recently. If they come in close, I think that pellet rifle would do the trick? No noise and no risk of collateral damage. We have 2+ acres, but still there are neighbors around.

Re: Drone solution?

Scott, Unfortunately a CO2 gun does not have enough "zip". Some of the German made pump pellet guns would work. Need to develop about 1100 FPS to do the job.

Put a couple in the rotors and they might still bring it down. [emoji6]
