Is anyone else planning on flying in to Airventure this year. I have yet to decide whether to fly in early ( the Friday before) or wait until Wednesday. It seems that it fills up over the weekend and if you attempt a Monday arrival, you are going to be diverted to Fond Du Lac.

I was thinking about Tuesday and Wednesday. However I would not want to be diverted.

Where are you flying from?

Hey, what happened to my signature?

Steve, I fly over from KANE on the north side of the Minneapolis/St Paul area. 2 hours to Oshkosh ( plus Ripon & Fisk). I just might wait till Wednesday also.

So I have been to OshKosh several times but just with a daily flight with the family (we are in Chicago) , flying up to Fond DuLac and taking the bus over...so my question is, is it worth it to stay for several days? I don’t know a lot of people in the aviation community so I am not sure what I would be doing all that time..

I try and do Sun n Fun annually, 6 of last 8 yrs. Made Osh once, met / kidnapped Rolf - that was a hoot.
One day is doable but busy, I think two is about right. Checkout things then go back and negotiate your deals on big items the next.

There is a night show (Wed / Sat) that is something you'll want to see (at least once).

The trip we made in 2016 on day three we'd seen about everything we wanted to and the exposure to the sun and lot's of walking was starting to take its toil. Day four we launched multi-ship (AC11) to Canada for an overnighter and subsequent flight around lake Superior.

My vote is 2 days overlapping for a night show if possible.

Dave, just talk aviation the entire time you are there.
Watch the ultralights fly early in the morning and again at 7pm. Check out the antique and classic airplanes on display. Wander up to the warbird area and count the P-51’s parked in rows! Take the bus over to the seaplane base and watch them come and go. Sit and watch a two or three hour air show every day. Wander through the four immense pole buildings full of aviation related merchandise. Check out some of the amazing workmanship done on the home built aircraft.
Or, if you don’t truly love aviation, stay away so it’s less crowded for those that do. I don’t mean to be rude, but if the first paragraph doesn’t appeal to you...

It would be nice if the commanders could park together

Kinda cutting it close, but my plane will be done with annual & Stratus Transponder install NLT tomorrow morning. After that I need a test flight or two, along with the careful preflight. I’ve always gone Monday, but this year I may wait until Wednesday or so. There is a school event I need to be home for Tuesday anyway.

The early weather forecast looks good for arrivals over the weekend. Last year the weather really stacked up arrivals Monday morning, hence my divert to Fondy. The Monday eve concert doesn't do much for me either.

Usually by Wednesday & later things open up a bit, better chance of getting in. That is, if it ever got full in the 1st place. There is a text number for parking updates this year 646-00 from the EAA.

You can easily spend 3 or 4 days just walking the airplanes on display, and all the products both outside and inside the huge buildings -- 4 of them. Did not even mention the workshops. Actually, easy to stay very busy for a week.

When I’ve been there with extra days/time I look to see what forums & briefs are available. They could be by some of the big names in general aviation, maintenance, safety, flying to the Caribbean, whatever. Oftentimes I am doing the one day deal, but overnight allows one to ‘join the party’ so to speak.

We're flying in on Sunday and staying until Wed/Thursday.

I will be there on Friday..flying commercial from Arizona

Planning on flying in Wednesday morning. If they are full, I’ll have to adjust somewhat. Plan to bring the tent to stay overnight.

It was a good day at Oshkosh. Great weather even though the camp ground had some muddy streets. The EAA started bring in single engine planes late on Sunday. It was a slow start for attendance but it was that better for us to see and talk to vendors. The early attendees are more avid pilots than the typical Spectator late in the week.
The volunteers worked hard to get the show in shape after the bad weather last week. I do not know of another city that would have got the job done.
Thank you Oshkosh

Just returned from Airventure. Three days of almost totally clear skies, temps in the low to mid 80’s and a light breeze most of the time. Textbook Airshow weather. I watched four or five Commanders arrive, but only met up with one . Admittedly, I didn’t search anyone out , but it seemed like a sparse showing of our type of airplane.
I had a nice tailwind going there, and a 35 knot headwind coming home, which means I should have stayed longer, right?
