Greetings fellow commander lovers.

My name is Bruno Santos, it has been my dream from childhood to fly, but the brazilian air force wouldn't take me or my poor eyesight.

Fast toward 15 years, this wonderful country has given me the opportunity of becoming a private pilot. As I started looking around for airplanes, I fell in love with the commander, it might not be the fastest nor the most economical, but boy it is just sexy!

Airplane ownership was not in my plans for right now, but a few months ago a friend invited me to look at his 112A. Now, why did I do that???

The bug bit me again and 2 months later I just wound up with my first airplane, a Commander 112TC N1663J, she is in need of a lot of TLC and a lot of elbow grease.

I know some of you might call me crazy, I don't mind, I'm pretty handy (I can rebuild my muscle car's engine) so everything possible and legal for me to do in the 112 I'm planning on doing myself.

My goal In joining your group is getting more acquainted with the plane, experience from some of you owners, parts sourcing and once this baby is on the air reunite her with brothers and sisters and make some friends on the way.

That's a brief short, please to meet y'all!!!!

Re: Commander World here I come!

Welcome Bruno! Make good friends w/ your local A&P and IA so they will supervise you doing work not otherwise available to pilot/owners and you will get to know your bird in much more detail. Very beneficial in the long run.

And since you will likely have a number of questions, plan to make the nominal investment to become a full member of COG. Much more detailed technical information is available in the Members Only section of the board. You will pay for your membership w/ your first repair or refurb.

Welcome bruno: climb to 10-12 thousand feet and you'll see 145 kits TAS easily. That's not exactly turtle territory. Have the Tail Mod in Vermont and you should easily see 150+ ktas. That's very good for only 210 hp. As time goes on you know you made the right decision. Welcome the the Group.

Re: Commander World here I come!

Bruno,
You're not crazy, you're just like us... Impetuous, daring, spontaneous, and classy.
Tell us where you're located. There are probably members close by for support.
Welcome,
Alan

Re: Commander World here I come!

Tell that to my wife Alan, she is still supportive though, I'm based in KTMB, Sunny South Florida.

Re: Commander World here I come!

Hey guys, forgive the dumb question.... I'm looking for a (list?) of all the AD's pertaining to the 112tc. Where can I get such thing?

Thank you.

Re: Commander World here I come!

Bruno,

Welcome aboard. The Commander's are so much different than a typical aircraft. Style and comfort! There are a number of STCs which can add a few knots here and there (NACA rudder scoop, SuperStream, etc), collectively adding 10 knots.

Thanks Alan, I was looking around and noticed that you also had purchased a plane that needed TLC.. I read some on your blog, but any pointers for a guy in the same spot? Thanks for the link.

Re: Commander World here I come!

Bruno, Don't know the current status of your aircraft, but if it's airworthy and flyable, try to keep your projects small and well defined... Don't tear everything apart; it's really hard to get it back together.
Several members here advised just that. Easy to get everything torn apart and get overwhelmed, so not easy to get it back to a flyable condition.
As advised above, find a good mechanic/IA who will work with you, teach you and let you do a lot of the work...
Best of luck; would be pleased to assist, if needed...
Alan

Ok guys I've been amazed by the organization as well as the knowledge shared in this community. I like it here, and even though I'm on the IT field, I never participated in a forum so actively (trolls scare me away). Judi if you are following this do you have any files on the 1633J? Also I'll need an A&P familiar with the commander in Maine and KTMB.
I need to ferry the bird down to Florida from it's hibernation.
