Commander at CYKZ

Ginnes

New member
Toronto, ON
Aircraft Year
1978
Aircraft Type
114
Reg Number
C-FGCS
Serial Number
14362
So I just moved my bird to CYKZ (Toronto Buttonville), and after shutting down and starting to complete the journey log, I heard two of the flightline guys to my right say "let's just park it here". I looked out to the right and thought the aircraft type looked awfully familiar. After getting out I saw C-GVWP (pics attached). What are the chances of getting parked side by side???

Looks like a 114, SN14243. Is the owner a COG member?

Re: Commander at CYKZ

Grant,

I own GVWP. Just flew in from Kelowna, BC. Flying back on Sunday. Hope to do a bit of sightseeing from the air tomorrow, weather permitting.

Cool pic.

Will you be at Buttonville Saturday morning?

Don

Re: Commander at CYKZ

Was Poutine consumed in Commander camaraderie?

Re: Commander at CYKZ

of course..... everybody in Canada KNOWS that you cannot get more than three of us together without a triple triple Tim Horton's and a heaping' helping' of poutine !!!

Re: Commander at CYKZ

With the weather crap on Saturday, I drove to Kingston for a lunch with my mom and nephew. If you're still here on Monday, let me know, I we can grab a coffee. I live about 10 minutes for CYKZ.

Re: Commander at CYKZ

Phil, thanks for your offer to meet up. I am now in Brandon, Manitoba this morning. Left Toronto on Sunday just before the weather turned nasty. Cleared the weather at about Tobermory. Hopefully, I can do the trip again sometime soon, and we can meet up then.

If you, or any of the COG members, find yourself in Kelowna (or Vancouver, BC, I split my time), please let me know and let's meet up.

Gottago, six hours of flying ahead of me today, weather permitting!

Don

Don,

Have a safe flight home. Best to email me at PLIGHT@ROGERS.com. Next time i'm on the west coast, I'll try and co-ordinate a meet up.

... and "smoked meat." They have a nice little Deli at Buttonville and I was standing next to a guy from "down south" who asked the counter girl, "what kind of meat in the smoked meat? She looked at him like he was from Mars and just said, "You know ... it's just, like, meat."

He was not about to settle for that and pushed it asking "what TYPE as in beef or pork?" She shouted back to the gal preparing the sandwiches, who you could just tell was a joker, "What kinda meat is in the smoked meat?" Gal in the back says, "Nobody knows. Could be cat for all I know! Yeah, I think it's cat"

The guy ordered a bowl of soup.

p.s. actually, it's kind of a legitimate question!

Re: Commander at CYKZ

meat is meat

Re: Commander at CYKZ

Well .. At Buttonville, the deli is Druxies, famous for their smoked meat. In our neck of the woods, smoked meat is always beef. However, you never know, if the odd cat falls in the smoker looking for some scrumptious morsels. Buttonville has a crew car for itinerant pilots. A short 10 minute drive, is a deli called Centre Street Deli (on Centre Street in Thornhill). They serve the finest smoked meat in Toronto. Try it out next time you're in town.

You got a witness! A client took me to Centre Street Deli!!! Excellent.

Beer and a stay over is better.

Re: Commander at CYKZ

Just a quick update. I am now back in Vancouver. 30 hours of flying over 6 days. What an adventure! From crossing the Rockies to the flat Prairies and then the north shore of Lake Superior, Lake Huron, down to Lake Ontario, and then back again. What a beautiful and vast country we live in. My flying machine ran beautifully, which made the trip all the more special. Time to explore the U.S. now!

Wish I could have flown along with you. Canada is so vast. I was looking at the map with one of my sons the other day and noticed that we could make Hudson Bay on one tank, with reserves, from Sault Ste. Marie! Hudson Bay! Now I just have to do that next summer.
