I agree with you about a 337 being unnecessary and a weight & balance would also probably fall into the "negligible" category. Outside of a log book entry, I believe the "aircraft equipment list" would be required to be updated to show the removal and replacement of the equipment
The "yellow tag" is a control document that tracks the part on its travel thru an authorized repair facility. It only one of many (white/receiving, red/scrap, green/rework, etc.) control tags that travel with the part. The only item that is worth anything on the yellow tag is the reference to the work order and my experience is that the FAA is quite "up front" about only wanting to see either a completed work order or an 8130.
