I finally got in the air today with my lovely bride. We made a short hop for breakfast and it was a beautiful day. After finishing breakfast we headed back out to the plane and helped a couple push their Apache into the tie down. Not sure why they stopped short. Mary headed to our plane and alerted me to a “real problem”. There was a large puddle of oil under our engine .

After my initial pucker factor I started checking everything I could see and touch, even removing the top cowl to survey any potential leaks. Everything was dry, the oil level was right where it was at the start of the day. A real head scratcher. I was feeling better after my many checks so I buttoned up and got the fan turning. I taxied a short distance and waited for more oil temp then increased RPMs. I taxied in a circle and the area had no oil on the clean pavement.

I then taxied out to do my run up and when completed, circled once again to find no oil on the pavement. I launched for home and once in the hangar gave everything another look, all was good.

That’s a great outcome, if not from your plane.

Hey Gary great video. After watching it, the camera showed the puddle was already there when you taxied in... that camera probably saved you hours of having to chase a ghost problem.:D

I only wish I could have viewed it while at our breakfast stop instead of having to crawl around and then remove the cowl to give everything a once over. The camera I used, Drift Ghost X, stores its info on a SDRam card. It was the first thing I watched when I got home and had access to it.
