Planning a flight to visit my brother and his wife in Port St. Lucie Florida. I’m looking at airports in the area, KSUA Witham, KFPR Ft. Pierce, and KVRB Vero beach. Any locals or frequent GA flyers provide a PIREP?

I’m going to call for hangar space at all three, and revisit the comments on airnav and Foreflight.

Gary,

I have been in and out of all three aerodromes multiple times every year for the past 20 years. Would probably pick FPR, VRB, SUA in that order. SUA leans a bit more toward heavy iron. Not quite as busy as the other two in terms of ops; but they "really value" their avgas. VRB has a very busy flight school. Not hard to be number 6-10 for the field. VRB has a nice restaurant (Cannons); as does FPR (Tiki Hut). FPR is a great jumping off point for the Bahamas. Friendly customs station (next to Tiki Hut). FPR also has flight school operations; but does not seem as busy as VRB. All three have acceptable IFR approaches. Towers/approach all seem reasonably friendly. Some can get harried if a flight school op or two become inattentive or uncooperative. Keep your ADS-B up and running. Practice areas West of fields are beehives of activity.

Can discuss any/all of them by phone if you desire. If you opt for SUA (probably the closest for Pt St Lucie), check out the First Watch five minutes from the field. Good breakfast.

I second the FPR recommendation. Been going in and out of there on the way to the Bahamas for years. Reasonably priced gas nice restaurant and I've never had a problem getting in and out of there fairly quickly. the folks at Customs there are typically pretty nice too

Thanks, Bill and Joel

It looks like FPR will be the place we hangar 3 Tango Charlie while we are in town. Mary and I plan a first stop on the west coast, in Fort Myers. Looking at a few condos and park models then heading east to meet up with my brother and his wife (snowbirds). With all this covid crap we haven't seen each other since March. I'm tired of the phone and text only, life needs to move forward. ;)

Assuming you will be using FMY and not RSW for Ft Myers? Base Ops has always taken good care of 3TC when we were stopping there. Rental cars, crew car, etc. Whatever you need.

Bill,

Yes, FMY is my choice and it’s very close to the condos we’re looking into. The two park models of interest are just across the river to the north.

I’m hangared at KFPR. I was at KSUA for a year. I live in PSL also. Stuart Jet Center at KSUA is expensive, but I had 0 issues there. APP jet center at KFPR are good people. The tiki restaurant is closed, thanks COVID. The self serve fuel is INOP at KFPR. Masks aren’t required in Martin county if you go to KSUA

Hey can you check if there is any hangar space at FPR I am planning to come down for a few months. I have been in and out of there several times. I personally think Vero is too busy! Maybe not in these times but do like FPR. This where I typically keep my boat during the summers. Give me a ring if there is any hangar space. My number is (860) 857-5249

Just a quick follow up....

I made my only fuel stop at KLRO, Mt Pleasant SC. Excellent service and a friendly staff. The airspace was crazy busy but ATC did a great job. Plenty of vectors for traffic between Flagler and Ft. Pierce.

The final destination airport of choice was KFPR, Ft Pierce - APP Jet Center. Again, excellent service and friendly staff. I secured a hangar for $45 a night.

The winter home condo search was a rat race. Plenty of nice places in our price range but pet restrictions. Smaller then 20lbs or no pets at all, it was impossible to find a place. The hunt will continue.... maybe a return in March.

Trip to Port St. Lucie

Make the realtor use FaceTime to show you the places

That's the plan "IF" we can find a place that will take us and our American Mastiff. If a dog is over thirty pounds, everywhere has been a no go. It's frustrating to say the least.
