I may have to stop at Rensselaer County airport in NY for business and Airnav makes it sound pretty rough, so I thought I'd ask for a firsthand report :)

Identifier is 5B7

Hey Glenn! Ironic ?
I visited Rensselear Tech in 1962- after being accepted there, but never been to the airport; have used it as a 'waypoint'. Sorry I can't help. Elliot???

The Google Earth pictures show it as pretty rough looking. And I like the Airnav description of a 'crater' at the approach end of 36.

Re: Anyone been to Rensselaer County airport?

Crater is odd to mention since you shouldn't be on the ground 32 ft from the end of the runway. I guess it to warn of the additional crane that would be needed to extract the aircraft prior to the tow truck.

What about this from the AIM? "Remain on blacktop; trnst rqd to call 24 hrs prior to arvl; no trnst night ops; frefrd ry 18 dep-36 arr"

Hmm. Think that I'll skip 5B7 and go for a nearby field. Thanks anyway.
